Vietnam - US energy forum advances industrial and trade cooperation
Monday, July 6,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - As Vietnam and the US deepen economic ties, the Vietnam - US Energy Security Forum at OTC 2026 opened new opportunities for business cooperation.
Representing the Vietnamese side were Nguyen Viet Son, Director of the Department of Oil, Gas and Coal under the Ministry of Industry and Trade; Nguyen Manh Quyen, Head of the Vietnam Trade Office Branch in Houston; Do Ngoc Hung, Vietnam Trade Counselor in Washington, D.C; leaders of PV GAS (PetroVietnam Gas Corporation); and representatives from its member enterprises.
The US delegation included Peter Tataris, Acting Director of the US Commercial Service in Houston, along with representatives from the US Commercial Service at the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
The forum also welcomed officials from both countries and nearly 30 representatives from energy companies and industrial service providers, including major partners such as Enerflex Energy Systems and US Siemens Digital.
The event featured in-depth presentations and discussions centered on two key themes: building partnerships for energy projects and advancing digital transformation.
As leading US corporations in the industrial, energy, and trade sectors continue to expand their interest in investing, exporting goods, raw materials, and advanced technologies to dynamic and high-potential markets across Asia, including Vietnam, the Vietnam Trade Office Branch at the Consulate General of Vietnam in Houston, Texas, has stepped up cooperation with government agencies, business associations, and economic and trade organizations across the southern US. These efforts aim to create more opportunities for business matching between enterprises from both countries while promoting investment opportunities and showcasing products and projects in key industrial sectors.
In addition, throughout May and June 2026, the Trade Office actively participated in several major global industry and energy events held in Houston, including CERAWeek, EPC, and OTC. These events provided valuable opportunities to monitor market developments while introducing international partners to Vietnam's investment climate and cooperation opportunities.
According to assessments by US business associations and chambers of commerce, major American corporations seeking overseas investment opportunities typically follow well-structured, long-term strategies. They rely on professional advisory services and conduct rigorous due diligence on prospective projects before making investment decisions.
Against this backdrop, research conducted by numerous international organizations and experts indicates that the Vietnamese and US economies are highly complementary and mutually reinforcing.
The US possesses world-leading strengths in advanced technologies, high-value services, and the development of international projects across strategic sectors such as industry, energy, aerospace, and agriculture, while also offering a large and culturally diverse consumer market.
Vietnam, meanwhile, has strong potential to attract investment and establish large-scale manufacturing projects capable of producing a wide range of high-quality products at competitive costs, supported by deep integration into global supply chains.
Trade and investment promotion activities that facilitate business connectivity will help attract investment, strengthen production capacity, accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies, and support Vietnamese enterprises and localities in implementing large-scale manufacturing projects. These efforts will also contribute to sustainable export growth, lower production costs, create more employment opportunities, and better meet evolving market demand.
The Vietnam Trade Office Branch at the Consulate General of Vietnam in Houston has been strengthening cooperation with a wide range of the US Government’s agencies, including the US Commercial Service in Houston, the Houston Export Assistance Center under the US Department of Commerce, the US Commercial Service at the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, the US Small Business Administration (SBA), and the US Small Business Development Center (SBDC).
The Trade Office has also expanded collaboration with financial institutions such as US EXIM Bank and Amegy Bank, as well as leading regional partners including the Greater Houston Partnership (GHP), the Indo-American Association (Houston), and the Asian Chamber of Commerce (ACC).
