Vietnam's exports of iron and steel in 5 months of 2026

AsemconnectVietnam - According to calculations from the Customs Department, in the first 5 months of 2026, Vietnam's iron and steel exports reached over 4.7 million tonnes worth of nearly 3.1 billion USD, a slight decrease of over 0.3% in volume but an increase of 0.1% in value; the average export price reached 656 USD/tonne, an increase of over 0.4% compared to the same period of 2025.
In May of 2026 alone, Vietnam's iron and steel exports reached 851,000 tonnes worth of over 612 million USD, a decrease compared to April of 2026 but an increase of nearly 2.6% in value compared to May of 2025 thanks to a sharp increase in the average export price to 719 USD/tonne.
Vietnam's main iron and steel export markets in the first six months of 2026
ASEAN continued to be Vietnam's largest iron and steel export market in the first six months of this year, accounting for 35.18% of the total volume and reaching 1.66 million tonnes, worth of over US$1 billion, an increase of more than 10% in both volume and value.
Specifically, iron and steel exports to Indonesia increased by nearly 28.7%, to Malaysia by nearly 18.8%, and to Cambodia by over 5.2%.
The country’s iron and steel exports to the US market in the first six months of the year increased sharply by over 33.5% in volume, reaching 661,170 tonnes, and nearly 28.7% in value compared to the same period of 2025.
Meanwhile, the exports to the EU market decreased by nearly 18.3% in volume and nearly 23.3% in value compared to the same period last year.
