Vietnam's seafood exports and imports in 5 months of 2026

AsemconnectVietnam - According to data from the Vietnam Customs Department, in May of 2026, Vietnam's seafood exports reached US$1.02 billion, a slight increase of 0.65% compared to April of 2026.

This brought the total value of Vietnam's seafood exports in the first five months of 2026 to nearly US$4.7 billion, an increase of nearly 11% compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Vietnam's total seafood imports in the first five months of 2026 reached over US$1.28 billion, a slight decrease of 1.64% compared to the same period in 2025. In May of 2026 alone, the import value reached US$253.64 million, a decrease of 8.96% compared to April of 2026.
Vietnam's main seafood export markets in the first six months of 2026
China has become Vietnam's largest seafood export market, with a turnover of US$1.16 billion, an increase of over 41.7% compared to the same period of 2025 and accounting for nearly 25% of our country's total export turnover.
However, Vietnam's seafood exports to traditional markets such as the United States and the European Union (EU) recorded a decline in the first six months of this year. Seafood exports to the United States reached over US$702 million, a decrease of nearly 8.4%; while exports to the EU market reached nearly US$420 million, a decrease of 2.4%.
Vietnam's main seafood import markets in the first six months of 2026
India continued to affirm its position as Vietnam's largest seafood import market. In the first five months of the year, imports from this market reached US$205.4 million, accounting for nearly 16% of the total import value of the entire industry and increasing by 8.2% compared to the same period of 2025.
The imports from Japan reached US$139.74 million, an increase of over 43% compared to the same period in 2025; while imports from the United States reached nearly US$48.3 million, a sharp increase of 74.5%; and imports from Canada reached over US$13 million, a growth of nearly 64.5%.
However, seafood imports from Southeast Asian markets decreased sharply by nearly 25.3%, reaching nearly US$178 million.
