Vietnam's imports of machinery and equipment in May and 5 months

AsemconnectVietnam - According to statistics from the Customs Department, Vietnam's machinery and equipment imports in the first five months of 2026 reached US$27.8 billion, an increase of 21.6% compared to the same period last year.
In May alone, the value of machinery and equipment imports reached nearly US$6.4 billion, an increase of 7.6% compared to the previous month and a 20.2% increase compared to the same period in 2025, reflecting the strong recovery in demand for technology investment and production expansion.
In the first five months of this year, the machinery and equipment imports of foreign-invested enterprises (FDI) reached US$19.3 billion, an increase of 18.1% compared to the same period and accounting for over 69.4% of the total machinery and equipment import market share nationwide.

In the first 5 months of 2026, China continued to assert its position as Vietnam's largest machinery and equipment import market with a turnover of nearly US$17.7 billion, an increase of nearly 22.4% compared to the same period last year and accounting for nearly 63.5% of the market share.
The imports from Japan and South Korea reached over US$2.1 billion (a slight increase of 3.23%, accounting for 7.61%) and over US$2 billion (an increase of 5.09%, accounting for 7.21%), respectively.
The imports from the ASEAN market reached US$1.72 billion, a strong increase of nearly 54.8% compared to the same period last year and accounting for nearly 6.2% of the market share.
Meanwhile, the imports from the EU reached nearly US$1.54 billion, an increase of 20.8% and accounting for over 5.5% of the market share.
