Vietnam rice prices stable on June 25 as export market remains competitive

 Thursday, June 25,2026

AsemconnectVietnam - Rice prices across Vietnam's Mekong Delta remained largely unchanged on Thursday, while export quotations from major suppliers showed little movement amid intensifying competition in global markets.

Market participants reported that prices of key rice varieties held steady compared with the previous session. IR 504 raw rice was quoted at VND8,700-8,800 per kg, while CL 555 raw rice traded at VND9,100-9,200 per kg. By-products recorded slight gains. Fragrant broken rice increased by VND50 per kg to VND7,950-8,100 per kg, while rice bran also rose by VND50 per kg to VND7,950-8,050 per kg. Fresh paddy prices in the Mekong Delta's major producing areas were generally stable. IR 50404 paddy was traded at VND5,500-5,700 per kg, OM 34 at VND5,400-5,600 per kg and OM 5451 at VND5,700-5,800 per kg. OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 varieties were quoted at VND6,200-6,400 per kg.
At retail markets, Jasmine rice declined by VND1,000 per kg from the previous day to VND16,000-17,000 per kg. Other varieties were mostly unchanged, with Nang Nhen rice selling at VND28,000 per kg, Huong Lai at VND22,000 per kg, Thai fragrant long-grain rice at VND20,000-22,000 per kg, Nang Hoa at VND21,000 per kg and ordinary white rice at around VND16,000 per kg.
On the export market, rice quotations among major suppliers remained stable.
According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), Vietnamese Jasmine rice was offered at $505-509 per tonne. Vietnam's 5% broken white rice was quoted at $410-414 per tonne, while fragrant 5% broken rice was offered at $485-490 per tonne.
Thailand continued to command the highest prices among leading exporters, with its 5% broken white rice quoted at $473-477 per tonne.
Pakistan's 5% broken white rice remained steady at $390-394 per tonne.
India maintained the lowest price levels among major exporters. Its 5% broken white rice was quoted at $347-351 per tonne, while 5% broken parboiled rice traded at $336-340 per tonne.
Vietnam exported an estimated 1.1 million tonnes of rice worth $511.7 million in May 2026, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
For the first five months of the year, rice exports reached approximately 4.5 million tonnes valued at $2.09 billion. Export volume increased 6.6% from the same period a year earlier, although export value declined 3.6%.
The weaker revenue performance reflected lower international prices. Vietnam's average rice export price during the January-May period was estimated at $467.6 per tonne, down 9.6% year-on-year as exporters faced growing competition in overseas markets.
The Philippines remained Vietnam's largest rice buyer, accounting for 46.9% of total export volume, equivalent to around 2.1 million tonnes. China ranked second with a market share of 17.8%, while imports from the country rose 54% compared with the same period last year. Ghana held the third position with a 7.5% share.
Industry participants noted that both the Philippines and China maintain relatively strict import management systems. China applies import quotas and limits market access to approved exporters, while the Philippines regulates imports through licensing mechanisms and periodic policy adjustments.
According to the VFA, speculation over potential reductions in Philippine rice imports often prompts Vietnamese exporters to accelerate sales in an effort to protect market share and reduce inventories. The resulting surge in supply can weigh on domestic rice prices and directly affect farmers' incomes.
