AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam's import value from Japan in May of 2026 reached US$2.28 billion, a decrease of 2.06% compared to April of 2026 but an increase of 20.44% compared to May of 2025, according to data from the Customs Department.
Overall, in the first five months of 2026, the total value of Vietnam's imports from Japan reached US$11.28 billion, an increase of 16.68% compared to the same period last year.
In the first five months of this year, computers, electronic products and components were the leading import items with a value of US$4.25 billion, a strong increase of 37.14% compared to the same period last year and accounting for 37.74% of Vietnam's total imports from the Japanese market.
Machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts ranked second with a turnover of over US$2.11 billion, an increase of 3.23% compared to the same period last year.
The imports of other petroleum products recorded the strongest growth at 445.14%, reaching a turnover of over US$68 million in the first five months of this year. However, imports of iron and steel decreased by 17.88% and scrap iron and steel decreased by 11.34%.
