 Tuesday, June 16,2026

AsemconnectVietnam - Rice prices in Vietnam's Mekong Delta remained largely unchanged on Tuesday, while trading activity continued at a slow pace. Export rice quotations were also steady.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang Province, fresh OM 18 paddy was quoted at VND6,400-VND6,500 per kg. Fresh Dai Thom 8 paddy was also traded at VND6,400-VND6,500 per kg, while fresh OM 5451 paddy stood at VND5,700-VND5,800 per kg.
Fresh IR 50404 paddy was quoted at VND5,500-VND5,600 per kg, while fresh OM 34 paddy was traded at VND5,100-VND5,200 per kg.
Across major producing areas, trading of the Summer-Autumn crop showed slight improvement but remained relatively subdued. In Dong Thap Province, transactions for harvested and near-harvest paddy were reported at stable prices. In An Giang and Can Tho, farmers increased offerings of Summer-Autumn paddy, although traders continued to purchase cautiously, limiting market activity.
Meanwhile, larger supplies were reported in Ca Mau, Vinh Long and Tay Ninh, where prices showed little movement.
In the rice segment, prices of most export-grade rice varieties remained stable. CL 555 rice was quoted at VND9,100-VND9,200 per kg, while IR 504 rice stood at VND8,700-VND8,800 per kg.
OM 5451 rice was traded at VND9,500-VND9,600 per kg, while OM 18 rice was quoted at VND8,700-VND8,850 per kg. Dai Thom 8 rice was priced at VND9,200-VND9,400 per kg.
Export-grade OM 380 rice and Soc Thom rice were both traded at VND7,500-VND7,600 per kg. Finished IR 504 rice was quoted at VND10,750-VND10,900 per kg.
By-products remained relatively stable, with prices ranging from VND7,800-VND7,900 per kg. Fragrant broken rice fell by VND50 per kg to VND7,750-VND7,850 per kg, while rice bran was traded at VND7,850-VND8,050 per kg.
At retail markets, rice prices were largely unchanged. Nang Nhen rice remained the most expensive variety at VND28,000 per kg. Huong Lai rice was sold at VND22,000 per kg, while long-grain Thai fragrant rice ranged from VND20,000-VND22,000 per kg.
Nang Hoa rice was quoted at VND21,000 per kg, Taiwanese fragrant rice at VND20,000 per kg and ordinary white rice at VND16,000 per kg.
Jasmine rice was traded at VND15,000-VND16,000 per kg, ordinary rice at VND13,000-VND14,000 per kg, Soc rice at VND16,000-VND17,000 per kg, Soc Thai rice at VND20,000 per kg and Japanese rice at VND22,000 per kg.
The glutinous rice segment also remained stable. Three-month dried glutinous rice was quoted at VND9,600-VND9,700 per kg, while fresh IR 4625 glutinous paddy was traded at VND7,300-VND7,500 per kg.
In the export market, Vietnamese rice quotations were unchanged. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), Jasmine rice was offered at USD509-USD513 per tonne.
Five-percent broken fragrant rice was quoted at USD485-USD495 per tonne, while 100% broken fragrant rice was offered at USD343-USD347 per tonne.
Among competing exporters, Thai 5% broken rice was quoted at USD462-USD466 per tonne, while Thai 100% broken rice was offered at USD415-USD419 per tonne.
In India, 5% broken rice was traded at USD343-USD347 per tonne, while 100% broken rice was quoted at USD278-USD282 per tonne.
Vietnam's rice exports continued to record growth in shipment volume during the first five months of 2026, although export earnings declined from a year earlier due to lower average export prices.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Vietnam was estimated to have exported around 1.1 million tonnes of rice worth USD511.7 million in May 2026.
In the January-May period, rice exports totaled approximately 4.5 million tonnes, generating USD2.09 billion in revenue. Export volume increased 6.6% year-on-year, while export value declined 3.6%.
The average export price during the five-month period stood at about USD467.6 per tonne, down 9.6% from the same period last year. The decline in export prices was the main factor preventing export earnings from growing in line with shipment volumes.
In terms of market structure, the Philippines remained the largest destination for Vietnamese rice, accounting for 46.9% of total export volume. China ranked second with a 17.8% share, followed by Ghana at 7.5%.
The outlook for the rice market in the coming months will largely depend on weather conditions in major rice-producing countries across Asia. Concerns over the potential impact of El Nino have emerged as a supporting factor for international rice prices, although supplies in several key exporting countries remain relatively stable.
