Vietnam's first fresh lychees conquered US market
Tuesday, June 9,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - In early June 2026, the first two shipments of fresh Vietnamese lychees (approximately 2 tonnes) were exported from Vietnam to Houston, Texas (USA).
Thanks to air transport, this specialty fruit retained its characteristic color, flavor, and quality, quickly gaining attention from supermarkets, Asian markets, and consumers in the United States.
Currently, lychees and many other fresh fruits from Vietnam are being distributed in major supermarkets and Asian markets in Houston (Texas) as well as in several other states of the United States. C&T Produce Wholesale Inc., the importer and wholesale distributor, reported that many customers had pre-ordered the product even before it arrived at the airport, demonstrating the strong appeal of this agricultural product in the market.
Ms. Diem Chinh, owner of C&T Produce Wholesale Inc., with nearly 25 years of experience importing and distributing food in the United States, stated that Vietnamese agricultural products are always highly valued by the Asian-American consumer community for their quality, diversity, and distinctive flavors. This is also an important customer group for Vietnamese fresh fruit products in the US market.
Over the years, the Vietnam Trade Office in Houston and the Consulate General of Vietnam in Houston have played a crucial role as advisory and connecting agencies in promoting trade, investment, and supporting businesses of both countries to strengthen business cooperation. Through close coordination with relevant agencies, economic and trade associations, trade promotion organizations, and the business community in the United States, many activities promoting brands, introducing products, connecting trade, and finding new partners have been effectively implemented, creating more opportunities for Vietnamese goods to penetrate deeper into the US market. In addition to connecting businesses, the Vietnam Trade Office in Houston regularly researches, updates, and provides information on trade policies, import and export, tariffs, technical standards, and regulations of the US market; and accompanies businesses in trade fairs, exhibitions, business networking, and investment promotion activities.
Notable examples include programs promoting Vietnamese products at the annual Asian Bazaar in Houston, B2B business networking activities organized by US economic and trade associations, and numerous trade and investment promotion events jointly organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnamese localities, and the Vietnamese representative office in the US.
In line with the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade's policy of expanding export markets, diversifying product lines, and enhancing the competitiveness of businesses, the Vietnam Trade Office in Houston has actively supported many industry associations, chambers of commerce, importers, and US businesses in conducting on-site surveys in Vietnam and participating in major trade promotion programs such as Vietnam International Sourcing (VIS) and events in various localities. Through this, US businesses have had the opportunity to directly access factories, production facilities, raw material areas, and standardized growing regions, gradually forming stable, large-scale supply chains for Vietnamese goods in many sectors.
Furthermore, according to assessments by importing businesses, the active participation of the Vietnamese-American business community in the United States has significantly contributed to bringing Vietnamese agricultural products closer to the large US distribution system, increasingly expanding opportunities for Vietnamese agricultural products, food, and especially fresh fruits in the world's largest market.
