Vietnam’s exports of tilapia increased in four months
Friday, June 5,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - According to Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (Vasep), in the first four months of 2026, Vietnam's tilapia exports reached US$49 million, a 151% increase compared to the same period of 2025.
This impressive growth reflects the positive outlook for the tilapia industry, with Brazil emerging as a major contributor to this growth, and frozen fillets continuing to play a key export role.
Frozen fillets dominate export product structure
Frozen tilapia fillets (HS code 0304) accounted for over 80% of the total export value of the entire industry in the first four months of 2026 while frozen whole fish (HS code 0303) ranked second with a significantly lower proportion. Value-added products (HS code 16) made almost no significant contribution to the current export structure. The high concentration of frozen fillets is partly a result of the surge from Brazil, causing this indicator to deviate somewhat from the diverse demand from other markets.
The data from the first four months of 2026 showed that Vietnam's tilapia exports are entering a strong growth phase, clearly led by the Brazilian market and the frozen fillet product group. This high concentration on a single market and product line reflects the current advantage of Vietnamese businesses in quickly fulfilling orders for frozen fillets with consistent specifications.
