Plan to strengthen trade promotion for handicraft products approved

AsemconnectVietnam - The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just issued Decision 1053/QD-BCT approving the Plan to strengthen trade promotion for handicraft products in traditional craft villages.

The content of the Decision clearly states that trade promotion activities should be developed in a professional manner, with a long-term strategy, focusing on the market, linking trade promotion with production development, brand building, and increasing added value. Along with that, it should harmoniously combine economic and cultural values, leveraging the advantages of craft village products with national identity, traditional craftsmanship, and sustainable consumption trends.
The Decision also requires strengthening the application of digital transformation and e-commerce, diversifying trade promotion methods, combining direct and online approaches. It also calls for strengthening linkages between the government, businesses, associations, and localities to improve the efficiency of trade promotion resources.
The Decision aims to enhance trade promotion capacity, expand domestic and export markets, and contribute to increasing the value, competitiveness, and sustainable development of handicraft products in craft villages. Simultaneously, it aims to promote innovation, technology application, and sustainable development, contributing to achieving double-digit growth targets for the 2026-2030 period.
To achieve these goals, Decision 1053/QD-BCT clearly states the need to promote, build, and develop brands, and establish a comprehensive brand strategy for craft village products according to industry groups and localities. It also emphasizes supporting the design of brand identity systems (logo, packaging, labels, product stories), promoting the registration of collective trademarks, geographical indications, and industrial designs, and organizing communication and promotional programs through mass media and digital platforms. Linking product promotion with the development of handicraft village tourism, establishing product showrooms and sales points.
Besides, it also emphasizes strengthening the organization and participation in trade promotion activities through the organization of specialized domestic trade fairs and exhibitions in a professional and modern manner; supporting businesses to participate in prestigious international trade fairs in key markets (EU, USA, Japan, South Korea...) as well as organizing business-to-business (B2B) networking programs, supply-demand connections, and Vietnamese product weeks both domestically and internationally.
In addition, it emphasizes leveraging the role of industry associations in coordinating, connecting, and supporting businesses; developing e-commerce and digital transformation, supporting businesses and cooperatives to participate in domestic and international e-commerce platforms; building a digital data system and database on handicraft village products; providing training in online sales skills, digital marketing, order management, and customer service and applying digital technology in promotion, trade connection, and management of trade promotion activities.
To realize the Decision, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has assigned specific tasks to functional units, in which the Trade Promotion Department will take the lead, coordinating with relevant units to develop and organize the implementation of a trade promotion plan for handicraft products and small-scale handicraft products in a focused, targeted, and effective manner. At the same time, it will play the role of coordinating trade promotion activities among ministries, sectors, localities, and industry associations to ensure uniformity in direction, avoid duplication and overlap, and improve the efficiency of resource utilization.
The Department of Innovation, Green Transformation, and Industrial Promotion is assigned the task of implementing industrial promotion activities to support rural industrial establishments in handicraft villages in applying advanced machinery, equipment, and scientific and technical advancements to production; The decision mandates the development of efficient production models, the application of cleaner production, and sustainable production and consumption to promote and expand the shift towards green and sustainable production. It also calls for the selection, recognition, and support of outstanding rural industrial products (RISEP) to foster innovation, increase product value, harmonize traditional values with market trends, and meet domestic and international needs.
The decision also requires the Departments of Industry and Trade in provinces and cities to organize supply-demand connection activities, trade fairs, exhibitions, and product weeks; support businesses, cooperatives, and production facilities in standardizing products, building and developing brands, participating in e-commerce, and connecting with distribution systems.
