Industrial production in 4 months of 2026 increased

 Tuesday, May 12,2026

AsemconnectVietnam - Industrial production in the first four months of 2026 increased by 9.2%, showing a recovery momentum that is spreading widely across key industries and localities, contributing to consolidating economic growth amidst improved production and consumption demand.

According to the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance), the industrial production in April of 2026 continued its positive trend, with the Industrial Production Index (IIP) increasing by 3.0% compared to the previous month and by 9.9% compared to the same period in 2025. Overall, in the first four months of the year, the IIP increased by 9.2%, reflecting the stable and expanding recovery of the industrial sector.
The driving force behind this growth came from the manufacturing industry, with a 9.9% increase, contributing 7.8 percentage points to the overall growth. The electricity production and distribution sector increased by 7.5%, water supply and waste treatment by 7.4%, while mining increased by 4.0%. This structure shows the leading role of processing and manufacturing while industrial infrastructure sectors continue to maintain production stability.
Notably, the Industrial Production Index (IIP) increased in all 34 localities, indicating the widespread spread of industrial activity nationwide. Several localities recorded high growth thanks to processing, manufacturing, and electricity production, such as Ninh Binh, Phu Tho, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, and Bac Ninh. Localities with hydropower advantages, such as Lai Chau and Son La, also achieved strong growth in the electricity sector, contributing positively to overall growth.
However, growth among localities remains differentiated. Some areas recorded low growth due to dependence on slow-growing or declining sectors such as mining and electricity, notably Lang Son, Lao Cai, Quang Ngai, and Tuyen Quang. This reflects the differences in industrial structure and the degree of economic transformation between regions.
From a product perspective, many key industrial items continued to grow strongly, such as motorcycles, automobiles, steel, processed seafood, and beer, reflecting the recovery of market demand both domestically and for export. Conversely, some products such as clean coal, televisions, leather footwear, and urea fertilizer decreased, indicating competitive pressure and a shift in consumption structure.
The labor market in the industrial sector also recorded positive signals, with the number of workers in enterprises increasing by 1.1% compared to the previous month and by 3.6% compared to the same period in 2025, showing that businesses are expanding production.
Overall, the picture of industrial growth is widespread in most localities, but there is differentiation between sectors and regions, which necessitates continued restructuring, productivity improvement, promotion of manufacturing and processing industries, and ensuring sustainable economic growth.
