Vietnam rice prices saw slight fluctuations on May 8, 2026

 Friday, May 8,2026

AsemconnectVietnam - Rice prices in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region recorded slight fluctuations on May 8 morning as supplies of fresh paddy gradually tightened following the harvest season.

According to the latest market data, fresh OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 paddy were traded at around 6,100–6,300 dong per kg. OM 5451 was quoted at 5,600–5,700 dong per kg, while IR 50404 stood at 5,400–5,500 dong per kg. OM 34 remained among the lower-priced varieties at 5,100–5,200 dong per kg.
In the export rice segment, prices of IR 504 raw rice increased by 100 dong per kg to 8,700–8,800 dong per kg, while CL 555 rice rose by 200 dong per kg to 9,200–9,300 dong per kg. Other rice varieties, including OM 18, Dai Thom 8, OM 380, and Soc Thom, remained largely unchanged from the previous session.
Retail rice prices were generally stable. Nang Nhen rice continued to post the highest retail price at around 28,000 dong per kg, followed by Huong Lai rice, Japanese rice, Thai fragrant rice, and Nang Hoa rice.
On the export market, Vietnamese rice prices showed mixed movements. Jasmine rice export prices increased by USD 17 per tonne to 513–517 USD per tonne, marking one of the strongest gains in recent weeks. In contrast, 100% broken fragrant rice declined slightly by USD 2 per tonne to 331–335 USD per tonne.
Vietnam’s 5% broken fragrant rice was quoted at 510–520 USD per tonne. During the same period, Thailand’s 5% broken rice edged up to 396–400 USD per tonne, while India’s 5% broken rice was offered at 346–350 USD per tonne.
As fresh paddy supplies in the Mekong Delta continued to shrink, traders and warehouses increased purchasing activities to secure raw materials for processing and exports. Market participants in Ca Mau reported difficulties in collecting large volumes of fresh paddy due to tightening supply, while warehouses in An Giang and Can Tho shifted toward purchasing dry paddy, particularly Dai Thom 8 and Japonica varieties.
Despite relatively subdued domestic demand, export rice prices maintained a mild upward trend, supported by improving international quotations. Traders noted that supply inflows into warehouses in Dong Thap Province remained limited, while many exporters continued to buy cautiously amid ongoing market uncertainty.
Industry analysts said the rice market was entering a new accumulation phase as fresh paddy supplies declined and export prices began to recover. In the short term, domestic rice prices could continue to edge higher if import demand from Asian and African markets improved further, although sharp increases were considered unlikely due to still-moderate buying activity.
