AsemconnectVietnam - On the morning of May 8, Vietnam’s domestic coffee market extended its upward momentum, following gains on the London robusta exchange. Coffee prices across key growing regions in the Central Highlands rose by VND 1,000–1,100 per kilogram, bringing domestic prices close to the VND 87,500/kg threshold.
Dak Nong Province recorded the strongest increase, with prices climbing by VND1,100/kg to VND87,300/kg, the highest level nationwide. Meanwhile, prices in Dak Lak and Gia Lai also rose by VND1,000/kg, trading at around VND 87,000/kg.On the global market, robusta coffee futures remained in positive territory for the second consecutive session. The July 2026 robusta contract on the London exchange increased by USD35 per tonne to USD3,413 per tonne. This marked the first return above the USD3,400 level after several sessions of sharp declines. The September 2026 contract also gained USD 19 per tonne to reach USD3,316 per tonne. In contrast, arabica coffee futures on the New York exchange came under strong downward pressure. The July 2026 arabica contract fell to 283.85 US cents per pound, while the September 2026 contract declined to 276.1 US cents per pound.
According to Marcelo Fraga Moreira, an analyst at Archer Consulting, the global coffee market continued to receive support from low worldwide inventories. However, Brazil’s new harvest season had started to put pressure on international exchanges as the market anticipated larger export supplies from the country in the coming months.
Vietnam reaffirmed its position as the world’s leading producer and exporter of robusta coffee. Nevertheless, industry experts noted that leadership in production volume had not yet translated into leadership in quality standards, sensory evaluation language, or value creation in the global market.
Vietnam was expected to maintain its leading position in robusta exports to consumer markets, with shipments estimated at approximately 24.6 million bags in the 2025–2026 crop year. Indonesia, Uganda, and Brazil continued to compete for the second, third, and fourth positions in global robusta export market share, depending largely on seasonal and weather-related factors.
