Leading LNG import markets in first quarter of 2026

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first quarter of 2026, the country imported over 882,419 tonnes of LNG, worth of nearly US$518.05 million, with an average price of US$587.08/tonne.
According to the preliminary statistics from the Customs Department, in March of 2026, Vietnam imported 344,622 tonnes of LNG, equivalent to nearly US$212.94 million, with an average price of US$617.89/tonne, an increase of 12.07% in volume, 21.62% in value, and 8.51% in price compared to February of 2026.
Overall, in the first quarter of 2026, the country imported over 882,419 tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG), worth of nearly US$518.05 million, with an average price of US$587.08/tonne, an increase of 46.4% in volume and 28.35% in value, but a decrease of 12.33% in price compared to the same period of 2025.
Qatar, Malaysia, and Qatar were the three largest markets supplying LNG to Vietnam; among them, Qatar led the way, with imports from this market in March of 2026 reaching 66,302 tonnes, equivalent to nearly US$34.59 million, at a price of US$521.65/tonne, an increase of 141.09% in volume and 103.73% in value compared to February of 2026, but a decrease of 15.5% in price. In March of 2025, Vietnam did not import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar. Overall, in the first quarter of 2026, the country imported 127,634 tonnes of LNG from Qatar, equivalent to nearly US$72.43 million, at a price of US$567.5/tonne, representing a sharp increase of 170.15% in volume and 130.89% in value, but a decrease of 14.53% in price compared to the first quarter of 2025; accounting for 14.46% of the total volume and 13.98% of the total value of LNG imports nationwide.
China was the second largest market in the first quarter of 2026, with imports reaching 99,396 tonnes, equivalent to nearly $69.41 million, at an import price of $698.3/tonne, representing a 24.48% increase in volume and a 20.6% increase in value, but a slight decrease of 3.11% in price compared to the same period of 2025. This accounted for 11.26% of the total volume and 13.4% of the total value. In March of 2026 alone, the imports from this market reached 46,080 tonnes, equivalent to nearly $34.38 million, at a price of $756/tonne, representing a 126.16% increase in volume and a 155% increase in value compared to February 2026, with a 12.75% increase in price. Compared to March of 2025, the imports also increased sharply by 108.47% in volume, 119.13% in value, and 5.11% in price.
The next was the Malaysian market, reaching 79,614 tonnes, worth of nearly US$53.26 million, at a price of US$668.97/tonne, a decrease of 42.45% in volume, 44.48% in value, and 3.52% in price compared to the first quarter of 2025, accounting for 9.02% of the total volume and 10.28% of the total value of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) imports nationwide.
Overall, LPG import value in the first quarter of 2026 from most markets increased in both volume and value compared to the same period of 2025.
