Seafood imports declined slightly in first quarter of 2026

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first three months of 2026, seafood imports reached over US$753.85 million, a slight decrease of 0.85% compared to the first three months of 2025.
According to the preliminary statistics from the Vietnam Customs Department, Vietnam’s seafood imports in March of 2026 increased sharply by 70.26% compared to February of 2026 and by 6.28% compared to March of 2025, reaching over US$287.15 million. Overall, in the first three months of 2026, the imports of this product group reached over US$753.85 million, a slight decrease of 0.85% compared to the first three months of 2025.
The largest source of seafood imports in the first three months of 2026 was India, accounting for 15.65% of the total import value of this product group nationwide, reaching over US$117.99 million, an increase of 2.74% compared to the first three months of 2025. The figure of March of 2026 alone reached nearly US$43.09 million, a sharp increase of 86.96% compared to February 2026 and an increase of 16.51% compared to March of 2025.
Ranked second in terms of import value was Norway, accounting for 11.94%, reaching nearly US$90.04 million, an increase of 6.52% compared to the same period in 2025. In March of 2026 alone, the imports from this market reached over US$34.77 million, a sharp increase of 109.53% compared to February of 2026 and a 5.81% increase compared to March of 2025.
The imports from Indonesia in March of 2026 increased by 45.18% compared to February 2026 but decreased by 23.91% compared to March of 2025, reaching over US$29.78 million; overall, imports from this market in the first three months of 2026 decreased by 26.49% compared to the first three months of 2025, reaching nearly US$87.79 million, accounting for 11.65% of the total import value of this product group nationwide.
The imports from Japan in the first three months of 2026 reached nearly US$81.43 million, an increase of 49.12% compared to the first three months of 2025, accounting for 10.8% of the total import value. In March of 2026 alone, the imports reached US$36.23 million, a sharp increase of 76.21% compared to February 2026 and a 65.85% increase compared to March of 2025.
The imports of seafood from South Korea in the first three months of 2026 reached nearly US$17.01 million, a decrease of 22.23% compared to the first three months of 2025, accounting for 2.26% of the total import value. In March of 2026 alone, imports reached US$6.26 million, a sharp increase of 71.84% compared to February of 2026, but a decrease of 11.39% compared to March of 2025.
The imports of seafood from the RCEP FTA market in the first three months of 2026 decreased slightly by 0.93% compared to the first three months of 2025, reaching nearly US$291.01 million, accounting for 38.6% of the total value; while the imports from the CPTTP FTA market increased by 26.77%, reaching over US$152.35 million, accounting for 20.21%. The imports from the EU market accounted for 1.12% of the total value, reaching nearly US$8.43 million, an increase of 3.44%; and the imports from the Southeast Asian market accounted for 15.06% of the total value, reaching over US$113.54 million, a decrease of 20.06%.
