Dong Nai leads in banana exports with a production volume exceeding 700,000 tonnes per year
Friday, April 10,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - With nearly 21,000 hectares of banana plantations and over 80% of its production dedicated to export, Dong Nai is gradually asserting its position as Vietnam's banana capital in international market.
Trade promotion, a leverage for building Dong Nai banana brand.
Recently, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province organized the Banana Export Ceremony and promotion of agricultural product exports in 2026 in Bau Ham commune. The event attracted participation of businesses, cooperatives and producers, creating a space to connect value chain from production to consumption, promoting export of the province's key agricultural product.
At export ceremony, 11 containers with a total volume of 220 tonnes of South American Cavendish bananas were exported to Japan, South Korea and China. These markets have high demands for quality, food safety, and traceability, demonstrating increasingly improved capacity of Dong Nai's banana industry to meet international standards.
Accordingly, Dong Nai has nearly 21,000 hectares of banana plantations, producing over 900,000 tonnes per year, with an average yield of about 55 tonnes/ha. The province has been granted 54 banana growing area codes covering nearly 7,300 hectares and 37 export banana packaging facility codes. Approximately 80% of the province's banana production is for export, with key markets including China, South Korea, Japan and Malaysia.
The large-scale production and increasingly systematic management of growing areas and packaging have helped Dong Nai become one of the leading localities in the country in terms of banana production and export value, gradually forming large-scale specialized banana farming areas.
Beyond just export activities, 2026 Banana Export and Agricultural Product Promotion Ceremony also carries profound trade promotion significance, contributing to promotion of fresh bananas and other key agricultural products of Dong Nai province to the international market.
Through this event, stakeholders have opportunity to exchange experiences in agricultural production and business, strengthen linkages between producers and businesses and gradually form a sustainable agricultural value chain. This is also an important condition for expanding consumption markets and increasing added value of agricultural products.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Nai province, 2026 Banana Export and Agricultural Product Promotion Ceremony of Dong Nai province is an important milestone in promoting the province's key, high-quality fruits; it serves as a bridge connecting managers, scientists, businesses and farmers to learn together, connect and expand markets. In coming period, agricultural sector will continue to plan concentrated production areas linked to brand building and diversification of export markets.
Towards becoming banana export center of the whole country
In 2026, Dong Nai province continues to set goal of boosting banana exports, contributing to positioning bananas in particular and fresh fruit industry in general on the world agricultural map.
Despite volatile global economic situation, banana export activities of businesses in the province still show positive signs. Volume and value of banana exports in the first months of 2026 continued to increase compared to the same period last year, showing that market demand for Vietnamese bananas remains high.
Export price of bananas in containers ranges from 19,000-20,000 VND/kg, creating motivation for producers to expand planting area and invest in improving product quality. Despite rising input costs due to international market fluctuations, businesses are striving to secure supply, maintain export orders and expand their consumer markets.
Notably, in addition to traditional markets like China, many businesses have gradually approached and expanded exports to new markets in the region, contributing to market diversification and reducing dependence on a few large markets.
Experts believe that trend of consuming safe, traceable agricultural products is opening up many opportunities for Vietnam's banana export industry in general and Dong Nai in particular.
Besides achievements, banana export industry is also facing many challenges, especially increasingly high demands for quality, food safety and disease prevention in crops.
One of current concerns is the risk of diseases in banana plants, especially Panama disease, which can affect yield and product quality. Therefore, researching and selecting disease-resistant banana varieties suitable for local soil conditions is an urgent requirement to ensure the sustainable development of the industry.
In addition, adhering to safe production processes, maintaining complete production logs and implementing product traceability are also mandatory conditions to meet requirements of export market.
To develop a sustainable banana industry, it is necessary to reorganize production into a linked chain from seed production and cultivation to harvesting, packaging, and export. Simultaneously, it is crucial to promote application of digital technology in production management, traceability and improve product quality management capabilities.
In coming period, Dong Nai province will continue to implement policies supporting development of linked chains, encouraging businesses and individuals to invest in developing banana growing areas that meet export standards, gradually increasing added value of banana products.
