AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnamese tilapia exports to the US recorded a dramatic increase in 2025, opening up great opportunities but also presenting numerous challenges.

The US continued to be Vietnam's largest importer of tilapia fillets, with a turnover of $40 million, a 499% increase compared to 2024. This impressive growth reflects strong demand from the US market, amidst difficulties in supply from some competing countries such as China due to tariffs and increased production costs.
Tilapia continues to expand in the US market
The growth momentum is expected to continue in the early part of 2026. In February alone, tilapia exports to the US reached $852,000, accounting for 10% of the total turnover of this product. For the first two months of the year, the turnover reached approximately $4 million, a 31% increase compared to the same period last year. Although there were signs of a slowdown in February, this was mainly seasonal, as importers significantly increased their inventories in the fourth quarter of 2025 to meet year-end demand.
