Seafood businesses seek oportunities in Brazil amid Middle East turmoil
Wednesday, April 1,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - Geopolitical instability in the Middle East is disrupting supply chains and creating an urgent need for market diversification for Vietnamese export businesses, including the seafood industry.
In this context, Brazil is emerging as a potential destination, opening up new opportunities for businesses to expand exports.
With a population of over 210 million and the largest economy in South America, Brazil is considered a "gateway" for Vietnamese goods to penetrate deeper into the Latin American region. Consumer demand in this market is increasing, especially for food products, including seafood.
For seafood businesses, this is an opportunity to reduce dependence on traditional markets such as the US, EU, or China, while taking advantage of growth potential in emerging markets. Expanding into Brazil also helps businesses diversify risks in the context of increasingly complex logistics costs and global trade fluctuations.
However, to effectively exploit this market, businesses need to proactively understand import regulations, build distribution channels, and strengthen connections with local partners to enhance competitiveness and sustainable development.
To support Vietnamese businesses in diversifying their markets, Vietnamese Trade Office in Brazil is implementing many trade promotion activities.
In 2026, the office plans to cooperate with Ho Chi Minh City to organize the Vietnamese national pavilion at the APAS Show Brazil 2026, scheduled to take place in May in Sao Paulo. In addition, in the seafood sector, the office is also cooperating with the Vietnam Association of Seafood Processing and Export (VASEP) to support businesses participating in the Seafood Show Latin America, scheduled to be held in October 2026 in São Paulo.
Vietnamese Trade Office in Brazil also recommended that the Trade Promotion Agency strengthen the provision of market information to the domestic business community, and encourage businesses to participate in major specialized trade fairs and exhibitions in Brazil such as APAS Show, FISPAL Food Service, EXPOMAFE, or Seafood Show Latin America.
