Vietnam rice market quiet on March 13 as fresh paddy holds firm

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s rice and paddy prices in the Mekong Delta showed little change on Friday, with fresh paddy holding firm and trading improving slightly in some areas, while the domestic rice market remained slow with mostly stable prices.
Fresh paddy prices steady
According to data from the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Environment, prices of freshly harvested paddy remained stable compared with earlier in the week.
• OM 18 fresh paddy was quoted at 6,000–6,100 dong per kg.
• Dai Thom 8 fresh paddy traded at 6,100–6,200 dong per kg.
• IR 50404 fresh paddy stood at around 5,500 dong per kg.
• OM 5451 fresh paddy was priced at 5,800–6,000 dong per kg.
• OM 4218 paddy was traded at 6,000–6,200 dong per kg.
• OM 34 fresh paddy was quoted at 5,200–5,400 dong per kg.
Market sources reported stronger trading activity for fresh paddy in several localities, with prices holding steady.
In An Giang and Can Tho, mills and warehouses continued placing deposits through traders to secure Dai Thom 8 and OM 18 paddy close to harvest, mainly for export shipments to the Philippines, with prices remaining relatively stable.
Meanwhile, in Dong Thap, Ca Mau, Vinh Long and Tay Ninh, trading remained slow, with little price movement.
Domestic rice market quiet
For rice, prices of most export-grade raw rice remained stable.
• OM 5451 export-grade raw rice was traded at 8,550–8,700 dong per kg.
• OM 380 raw rice stood at 7,500–7,600 dong per kg.
• Dai Thom 8 raw rice was quoted at 9,150–9,350 dong per kg.
• CL 555 raw rice was priced at 7,900–8,010 dong per kg.
• IR 504 raw rice traded at 8,000–8,100 dong per kg.
• OM 18 raw rice was at 8,900–9,100 dong per kg.
• Soc Thom raw rice was quoted at 7,500–7,600 dong per kg.
• Finished IR 504 rice was priced at 9,500–9,700 dong per kg.
Market activity remained subdued, with limited transactions reported in several areas.
In An Giang, rice arrivals increased slightly, but trading remained slow, although warehouses offered higher prices for high-quality OM 5451 rice.
In Lap Vo–Sa Dec (Dong Thap), rice arrivals were limited and warehouses purchased slowly, leaving prices largely unchanged. A similar situation was reported in An Cu (Dong Thap), where rice supply remained modest and trading was sluggish.
By-products edged higher
Rice by-product prices ranged between 7,650 and 11,500 dong per kg.
• Broken fragrant rice rose by 50 dong to 7,650–7,800 dong per kg.
• Rice bran was traded at 10,500–11,500 dong per kg.
Retail rice prices unchanged
At retail markets, rice prices remained steady compared with the previous day.
• Nang Nhen rice was the highest-priced variety at 28,000 dong per kg.
• Huong Lai rice stood at 22,000 dong per kg.
• Thai long-grain fragrant rice was priced at 20,000–22,000 dong per kg.
• Nang Hoa rice was quoted at 21,000 dong per kg.
• Taiwan fragrant rice stood at 20,000 dong per kg.
• Jasmine fragrant rice traded at 13,000–14,000 dong per kg.
• Standard white rice was priced at 16,000 dong per kg.
• Soc rice was quoted at 16,000–17,000 dong per kg.
• Common rice varieties traded at 12,000–13,000 dong per kg.
• Soc Thai rice was priced at 20,000 dong per kg, while Japanese rice stood at 22,000 dong per kg.
Export rice prices
According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), export rice prices remained stable.
• 5% broken fragrant rice was quoted at $400–415 per ton.
• 100% broken rice stood at $316–320 per ton.
• Jasmine rice was priced at $430–434 per ton.
