Ho Chi Minh City: Nearly 9.7 million voters registered for NA, People’s Councils elections

AsemconnectVietnam - The city has recorded nearly 9.7 million eligible voters. and the printing and delivery of voter cards to commune-level election committees have been completed.
Nearly 9.7 million voters in Ho Chi Minh City have been registered to take part in the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly (NA) and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 tenure, according to the municipal Election Committee.
The committee convened its eighth meeting on March 11 under the presidency of Vo Van Minh, Chairman of the municipal People’s Council and head of the city’s Election Committee.
At the meeting, officials reported that election preparations are being implemented in a coordinated and timely manner. The Election Committee has issued working regulations, assigned tasks to members, and released guidance documents to ensure the progress of election-related activities. Subcommittees and relevant agencies have been regularly monitored to ensure that preparations are carried out as planned.
Authorities said the implementation of tasks at the commune level has largely met requirements and timelines, with local bodies promptly reporting difficulties or emerging issues for guidance.
Following reviews and updates, the city has recorded nearly 9.7 million eligible voters. The printing and delivery of voter cards to commune-level election committees have been completed. However, according to the city’s police department, about 8.7% of the cards had yet to be delivered to voters as of March 11, with efforts underway to complete the distribution within the day to ensure that no eligible voter is left without the opportunity to exercise their voting rights.
As of March 8, the municipal Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee had coordinated with local units to organise 2,836 voter meetings and 3,906 candidate profile introduction sessions, attracting more than 152,000 participants.
The subcommittee responsible for handling complaints and denunciations received six petitions and has addressed them in accordance with legal regulations.
Public communications campaigns have also been widely carried out via mass media, digital platforms, and contests designed to raise public awareness. Besides, healthcare, disaster response, and food safety plans have been readied.
Early voting was organised successfully and safely in four areas of Phuoc Thang ward, Tam Thang ward and Long Son commune. Ballot boxes were sealed and will remain under the supervision of electoral teams until vote counting begins after the close of voting on late March 15.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee and Chairman of the municipal Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Nguyen Phuoc Loc, who is also deputy head of the city's Election Committee, urged authorities to strengthen supervision of election preparations and ensure smooth operation of the information technology system supporting the process.
He also emphasised the need to maintain political security, social order and food safety while taking measures to prevent fire and other risks at polling stations before, during and after the Election Day./.
