Vietnam coffee prices steady at 96,700 dong/kg as farmers hold back sales
Tuesday, March 10,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s domestic coffee prices remained stable on Tuesday in the Central Highlands, trading in the range of 96,300–96,700 dong per kilogram, as many farmers continued to hold back supplies in anticipation of higher prices.
Meanwhile, coffee prices in Dak Lak and Gia Lai were quoted at 96,500 dong/kg, while Lam Dong remained the lowest-priced locality in the region at around 96,300 dong/kg.
Although global coffee prices have risen significantly in recent sessions, domestic prices have adjusted more slowly as supplies from the ongoing harvest continue to enter the market.
However, amid the renewed upward trend in global prices, many farmers in the Central Highlands are choosing to delay sales while waiting for more favorable price levels in the coming period.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Vietnam exported more than 395,000 tons of coffee in the first two months of 2026, up 23% year-on-year, with export revenue reaching $1.9 billion, an increase of 6.3%.
However, due to the recent cooling trend in global markets, the average export price of Vietnamese coffee in January fell 13.5% to $4,791 per ton.
Despite improved supply in recent months, it still remains significantly lower than market demand. In this context, European roasters are likely to increase purchases and stockpiling to stabilize production.
Coffee prices may continue to rise in the coming period, although they are unlikely to surge as sharply as in previous years. Geopolitical tensions remain an uncertain factor that could push prices higher if transportation disruptions persist.
Coffee prices rose sharply for the May arabica contract on Monday, while robusta futures were largely unchanged. The market was supported by below-average rainfall in Brazil, although gains were partly capped by a stronger U.S. dollar and improving export supplies from Vietnam.
Global coffee market update
During the March 9 trading session, London robusta coffee futures for May 2026 were almost unchanged from the previous session, edging down 0.03% (or $1 per ton) to $3,771 per ton. The July 2026 contract fell 0.24% (or $9 per ton) to $3,670 per ton.
On the New York exchange, arabica coffee futures for May 2026 rose 1.23% (3.6 U.S. cents per pound) to 296.9 cents per pound. The July 2026 contract gained 0.85% (2.45 cents) to 290.9 cents per pound.
According to Barchart, arabica coffee prices on the New York exchange climbed to a three-week high and closed higher. The rally was supported by a report from Somar Meteorologia showing that Minas Gerais, Brazil’s largest arabica-growing region, received only 14.9 mm of rainfall last week, equivalent to 35% of the historical average.
Coffee prices were also supported by the risk of supply disruptions, as the conflict in Iran has disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The disruption has pushed up global freight, insurance and fuel costs, increasing expenses for coffee importers and roasters.
In addition, coffee prices received support from data showing Brazil’s coffee exports in February fell 17.4% year-on-year to 142,000 tons.
However, the rebound in prices was partly limited by a modest strengthening of the U.S. dollar.
Meanwhile, ICE-monitored arabica inventories rose to a five-month high of 553,379 bags as of March 9. Similarly, ICE robusta inventories recovered to a roughly 3.25-month high of 4,721 lots as of March 3.
Rising exports from Vietnam, the world’s largest robusta producer, also weighed on robusta prices. Vietnam’s General Statistics Office reported that the country’s coffee exports in the first two months of 2026 rose 14% year-on-year to 366,000 tons.
Separately, Reuters reported that Uganda’s Ministry of Agriculture said the value of the country’s coffee exports in January was largely unchanged from a year earlier due to lower global coffee prices.
Coffee is one of Uganda’s key export commodities and a major source of foreign exchange earnings. The country is currently Africa’s largest coffee exporter.
The report showed that Uganda earned $161 million from coffee exports in January, up 1.5% from the same period last year.
The slight increase was mainly due to lower global coffee prices, which were “affected by improved global supply prospects after Brazil recorded abundant rainfall, easing concerns about future coffee supply.”
In terms of volume, Uganda exported 569,454 bags of coffee (60 kg each), up 2% from the same month a year earlier.
