Vietnam's pepper exports increased in January of 2026

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam's pepper exports in January 2026 reached 21,667 tonnes, earning US$139.29 million.

Although the volume and value decreased slightly compared to the last month of the previous year, this figure still showed significant progress, with a strong increase compared to the same period of 2025.
Calculations from data of the Vietnam Customs Department showed that Vietnam's pepper exports in January of 2026 reached 21,667 tonnes with a value of US$139.29 million, an increase of 67.21% in volume and 59.11% in value compared to the same period in 2025. This marked the sixth consecutive month of year-on-year growth in pepper exports, and is also the highest level recorded for January ever. However, the average export price of pepper in January of 2026 reached US$6,429/tonne, a slight decrease of 4.85% compared to the average price in the same month of 2025.
The import demand from many major markets remains stable, helping the Vietnamese pepper industry maintain its important position in the world market.
The United States continued to lead Vietnam's pepper export market in the first month of 2026, with strong increases in both volume and value compared to the same period last year, accounting for 24.5% of the volume and 27.89% of the value. Specifically, Vietnam's pepper exports to the United States reached 5,308 tonnes, with a value of US$38.85 million, an increase of 87.63% in volume and 78.81% in value compared to January of 2025.
Regarding the market outlook, experts believe that global demand for pepper is projected to rebound in 2026, especially in the US market, following the reduction of tariffs on pepper to zero and increased purchases from many countries.
In January of 2026, Vietnam exported 2,846 tonnes of pepper to the EU market, valued at US$20.76 million, representing a 30.49% increase in volume and a 21.23% increase in value compared to December of 2025; an 8.42% increase in volume and a 15.31% increase in value compared to January of 2025; accounting for 13.14% of the total volume and 14.91% of the total value of pepper exports nationwide.
Vietnam slightly reduced its pepper exports to Southeast Asian markets in January of 2026, down by 4.23% in volume compared to December of 2025, reaching 2,150 tonnes, and down 7.02% in value, reaching US$14.22 million. However, compared to the same month of 2025, the volume and value of exports of this commodity increased sharply by 142.12% and 130.61% respectively.
In the first month of 2026, some markets saw strong year-on-year export growth, such as Thailand (+305.94%), the United Arab Emirates (+175.52%), Canada (+146.11%), South Africa (+377.79%), Poland (+258.035%), Egypt (+154.96%)...; Some markets with declining export turnover include: Germany (-20.84%), India (-13.6%), and the UK (-23.89%).
