According to preliminary statistics from the Customs Department, soybean imports in January of 2026 reached 331,831 tonnes, equivalent to US$154.89 million, with an average price of US$466.78/tonne, an increase of 33.17% in volume and 33.26% in value compared to December of 2025, and a slight increase of 0.07% in price; compared to January 2025, there was also an increase in volume, value, and price, with increases of 78.56%, 80.25%, and 0.94% respectively.
Vietnam's largest source of soybean imports was the United States, with 213,688 tonnes imported in January of 2026, equivalent to US$99.17 million, at an average price of US$464.07 per tonne. This represents a 16.3% increase in volume, a 17.52% increase in value compared to December of 2025, and a 1.05% increase in price. Compared to January of 2025, both volume, value, and price also increased, with corresponding increases of 20.67%, 22.73%, and 1.71%; accounting for 64.4% of the total volume and 64.02% of the total value of soybean imports nationwide.
Brazil became the second largest supplier of soybeans to Vietnam in January of 2026, despite Vietnam not imported soybeans from Brazil in December of 2025 or January of 2025. In January of 2026, Vietnam imported 69,637 tonnes of soybeans from Brazil, equivalent to US$34.4 million, at an average price of US$494.02/tonne; accounting for 20.99% of the total volume and 22.21% of the total value of soybean imports nationwide.
In addition, soybean imports from Argentina in January of 2026 reached 39,678 tonnes, equivalent to over US$16.62 million, at a price of US$418.77/tonne, an increase of 51.45% in volume and 30.15% in value, but a decrease of 14.06% in price compared to December of 2025. In January of 2025, Vietnam did not import soybeans from this market; soybean imports from Argentina accounted for 11.96% of the total volume and 10.73% of the total value of soybean imports nationwide.
The imports from Canada in January of 2026 reached 7,132 tonnes, equivalent to US$3.68 million, at a price of US$516.04/tonne, a sharp decrease of 79.11% in volume and 76.51% in value, but a price increase of 12.43%. Compared to January of 2025, there were decreases in both volume, value, and price, with reductions of 11.61%, 20.37%, and 9.91% respectively; accounting for 2.15% of the total volume and 2.38% of the total value of soybean imports nationwide.
The imports from Cambodia in January of 2026 reached 1,390 tonnes, equivalent to US$901,500, at a price of US$648.56/tonne, a sharp decrease of 67.18% in volume, 67.87% in value, and a price decrease of 2.09%. Compared to January of 2025, there was a sharp increase of 205.49% in volume and 168.3% in value, but a decrease of 12.17% in price; accounting for 0.42% of the total volume and 0.58% of the total value of soybean imports nationwide.
