Wheat import market in January of 2026

AsemconnectVietnam - In January of 2026, the whole country imported 674,881 tonnes of wheat, worth of nearly US$175.75 million, with an average price of US$260.41/tonne.
According to the preliminary statistics from the Customs Department, wheat imports in January of 2026 reached 674,881 tonnes, equivalent to US$175.75 million, with an average price of US$260.41/tonne, a sharp increase of 126.52% in volume and 123.75% in value compared to December of 2025, but the price decreased slightly by 1.23%; compared to January of 2025, there was an increase of 67.23% in volume, an increase of 63.6% in value, but a decrease of 2.17% in price.
Vietnam's largest wheat imports came from Australia, with 158,804 tonnes imported in January of 2026, equivalent to US$42.72 million, at an average price of US$269 per tonne. This represents a 136.09% increase in volume and a 129.69% increase in value compared to December of 2025, but a 2.71% decrease in price. Compared to January of 2025, imports also increased by 154.61% in volume and 148.34% in value, but decreased by 2.47% in price. Australia accountedfor 23.53% of the total volume and 24.31% of the total value of wheat imports nationwide.
Brazil was the second largest supplier of wheat to Vietnam in January of 2026, importing 134,727 tonnes, equivalent to US$34.15 million, at an average price of US$253.5/tonne. This represents a sharp increase of 160.4% in volume and 156.49% in value compared to December of 2025, but the price decreased by 1.5%. Compared to January of 2025, there was a decrease of 35.93% in volume, 37.07% in value, and 1.79% in price; accounting for 19.96% of the total volume and 19.43% of the total value of wheat imports nationwide.
Next, wheat imports from Canada in January of 2026 reached 81,766 tonnes, equivalent to over US$22.48 million, at a price of US$275/tonne, representing a sharp increase of 526.18% in volume, 544.64% in value, and a 2.95% increase in price compared to December of 2025. Compared to January of 2025, there was also an increase of 49.85% in volume and 35.34% in value, but the price decreased by 9.68%; wheat imported from Canada accounted for 12.12% of the total volume and 12.79% of the total value of wheat imports nationwide.
