Fertilizer exports showed strong growth in January of 2026

According to the preliminary statistics from the Customs Department, fertilizer exports in January of 2026 reached 252,391 tonnes, equivalent to US$101.07 million, with an average price of US$400.43/tonne, an increase of 120.34% in volume and 91.46% in value compared to December of 2025, but the price decreased by 13.11%; compared to January of 2025, there was an increase of 71.11% in volume, an increase of 66.46% in value, but a decrease of 2.72% in price.
The largest export market for fertilizers was Cambodia, with 55,218 tonnes exported in January of 2026, equivalent to US$23.21 million, at an average price of US$420.3/tonne. This represented a 6.34% increase in volume and a 3.79% increase in value compared to December of 2025, but a 2.4% decrease in price. Compared to January of 2025, the exports also increased by 38.05% in volume, 42.06% in value, and 2.9% in price; accounting for 21.88% of the total volume and 22.96% of the total value of fertilizer exports nationwide.
Malaysia was Vietnam's second largest fertilizer export market in January of 2026, exporting 16,098 tonnes, equivalent to US$8.67 million, at an average price of US$538.78/tonne. This represents a sharp increase of 128.89% in volume, 137.54% in value compared to December of 2025, and a 3.78% increase in price. Compared to January of 2025, there was also an increase of 7.86% in volume, 56.79% in value, and 45.36% in price; accounting for 6.38% of the total volume and 8.58% of the total value of fertilizer exports nationwide.
The exports of fertilizer to the Philippines in January of 2026 reached 11,598 tonnes, equivalent to over US$5.37 million, at a price of US$462.95/tonne, accounting for 4.6% of the total volume and 5.31% of the total value of fertilizer exports nationwide. This is despite the fact that no fertilizer exports were made to this market in December of 2025 and January of 2025.
Fertilizer exports to the FTA-RCEPP market in January of 2026 reached 121,093 tonnes, equivalent to US$47.78 million, at a price of US$394.58/tonne, a sharp increase of 55.19% in volume and 40.43% in value, but a decrease of 9.51% in price. Compared to January of 2025, there was a decrease of 2.97% in volume, a decrease of 2.59% in value, but an increase of 0.4% in price. This accounted for 47.98% of the total volume and 47.28% of the total value of fertilizer exports nationwide.
Fertilizer exports to the Southeast Asian market in January of 2026 reached 116,765 tonnes, equivalent to US$45.53 million, at a price of US$389.94/tonne, a sharp increase of 67.58% in volume and 49.57% in value, but a decrease of 10.75% in price. Compared to January of 2025, there was also an increase of 82.73% in volume and 79.25% in value, but a decrease of 1.9% in price; accounting for 46.26% of the total volume and 45.05% of the total value of fertilizer exports nationwide.
