According to the preliminary statistics from the Customs Department, fertilizer imports in January of 2026 reached 244,887 tonnes, equivalent to US$74.95 million, with an average price of US$306.08/tonne, a decrease of 47.15% in volume and 52.72% in value compared to December of 2025, and a decrease of 10.54% in price; compared to January of 2025, there was also a decrease of 34.49% in volume, 47.89% in value, and 20.44% in price.
The largest source of fertilizer imports was China, with 129,334 tonnes imported in January of 2026, equivalent to US$42.04 million, at an average price of US$325.08 per tonne. This represented a decrease of 35.85% in volume and 33.07% in value compared to December of 2025, but a 4.33% increase in price. Compared to January of 2025, this represented a 6.95% increase in volume, a 22.89% increase in value, and a 14.91% increase in price; accounting for 52.81% of the total volume and 56.09% of the total value of fertilizer imports nationwide.
Laos was Vietnam's second largest supplier of fertilizer in January of 2026, importing 21,223 tonnes, equivalent to US$7.24 million, at an average price of US$341/tonne. This represents a sharp increase of 6.73% in volume, 8.76% in value compared to December of 2025, and a 1.89% increase in price. Compared to January of 2025, there was also a 30% increase in volume, a 72.76% increase in value, and a 32.81% increase in price; accounting for 8.67% of the total volume and 9.66% of the total value of fertilizer imports nationwide.
The fertilizer imports from the South Korean market in January of 2026 reached 12,429 tons, equivalent to over 3.67 million USD, at a price of 295 USD/tonne, accounting for 5.08% of the total volume and 4.89% of the total value of fertilizer imports nationwide; a decrease of 53.44% in volume and 50.37% in value compared to December of 2025, but the price increased by 6.59%. Compared to January of 2025, there was a decrease of 29% in volume, 49.28% in value, and 28.5% in price.
Fertilizer imports from FTA-RCEPP markets in January of 2026 reached 205,320 tonnes, equivalent to US$57.06 million, at a price of US$277.93/tonne, a decrease of 35.43% in volume, 36.14% in value, and 1.11% in price. Compared to January of 2025, there was an increase of 1.88% in volume, 4.29% in value, and 2.37% in price; accounting for 83.84% of the total volume and 76.13% of the total value of fertilizer imports nationwide.
In January of 2026, fertilizer imports from Southeast Asian markets reached 30,182 tons, equivalent to US$9.03 million, at a price of US$299.3/tonne, a decrease of 12.94% in volume, 34.97% in value, and 25.31% in price. Compared to January of 2025, the imports also decreased by 26.7% in volume and 23.15% in value, but increased by 4.83% in price; accounting for 12.32% of the total volume and 12.05% of the total value of fertilizer imports nationwide.
