Industrial Production Index increased in January of 2026

AsemconnectVietnam - According to a report of the General Statistics Office, Vietnam’s industrial production index (IIP) in January of 2026 was estimated to have increased by 21.5% compared to the same period last year, mainly due to improved orders and 6 more working days in January compared to the same period last year.
The manufacturing sector increased by 23.6%.
Specifically, the manufacturing sector increased by 23.6% compared to the same period last year; electricity production and distribution increased by 14.1%; water supply, waste management and wastewater treatment increased by 13.6%; and the mining sector increased by 10.3%.
The growth rate of the manufacturing index in January of 2026 was also recorded in several key second-tier industries compared to the same period last year, such as: the production of other non-metallic mineral products increased by 41.9%; motor vehicle production increased by 36.6%; metal production increased by 35.4%; chemical and chemical product production increased by 35.2%; paper and paper product production increased by 31.9%; beverage production increased by 26.1%.
The production of rubber and plastic products increased by 25.8%; tobacco product production increased by 25.6%; garment production increased by 25.3%; wood processing and production of wood, bamboo, and rattan products increased by 21.7%; electrical equipment production increased by 21.1%; production of electronic products, computers and optical products increased by 20.9%; food processing increased by 17.7%.
Coke and refined petroleum product production increased by 9.3%; crude oil and natural gas extraction increased by 6.2%.
Along with that, the industrial production index (IIP) in January of 2026 increased compared to the same period last year in all 34 localities. Some localities achieved significant increases in the IIP thanks to the processing and manufacturing industry; and the electricity production and distribution sector.
Conversely, some localities had low increases in the IIP due to low or declining growth in the processing and manufacturing industry; the mining industry; and the electricity production and distribution sector.
The production of key industrial products increased significantly
The report from the General Statistics Office also clearly indicates that the production of some key industrial products in January of 2026 increased significantly compared to the same period last year: telephone components increased by 92.7%; motorcycles increased by 54.3%; cement increased by 48.9%; automobiles increased by 48.5%; rolled steel increased by 38.0%; processed seafood increased by 30.7%; powdered milk and chemical paints both increased by 29.1%.
However, conversely, the production of some products decreased compared to the same period last year, such as urea fertilizer decreased by 40.0%; mobile phones decreased by 6.1%.
The number of workers employed in industrial enterprises as of January 1, 2026 increased by 0.8% compared to the same period the previous month and increased by 4.3% compared to the same period last year.
Of which the number of workers in state-owned enterprises increased by 0.1% and decreased by 0.9%; non-state enterprises increased by 0.6% and decreased by 0.2%; foreign-invested enterprises increased by 1.0% and increased by 6.0%.
By sector, the number of workers employed in mining enterprises decreased by 0.2% compared to the previous month and increased by 1.1% compared to the same period last year. The processing and manufacturing sector increased by 0.9% and 4.5%; the electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning production and distribution sector increased by 0.1% and 1.9%; the water supply, waste management and wastewater treatment sector decreased by 0.1% and increased by 1.6%.
