AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s domestic rice prices edged down slightly on Thursday morning, with raw rice falling by 50 dong per kg, while trading activity remained subdued as many mills cleared inventories ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, according to Kinhtedothi newspaper.

Data from the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Environment and industry source Lua Gao Viet showed that export-grade CL 555 raw rice declined by 50 dong to 8,200–8,350 dong per kg. Dai Thom 8 raw rice also fell by 50 dong to 9,100–9,200 dong per kg.
Other grades were largely steady. IR 504 export raw rice traded at 8,000–8,100 dong per kg, OM 18 at 8,900–9,100 dong, OM 380 at 7,600–7,770 dong, OM 5451 at 8,800–8,900 dong, and Soc Thom at 7,500–7,600 dong per kg. Finished IR 504 rice stood at 9,500–9,700 dong per kg compared with the previous day.
By-products were quoted between 7,600 dong and 11,500 dong per kg. Broken IR 504 rice traded at 7,600–7,770 dong per kg, while rice bran was priced at 10,500–11,500 dong per kg compared with the end of last week.
Market participants said trading was quiet in several provinces as mills prepared for the holiday. In An Giang, supply arrivals were limited and transactions were slow, with prices largely unchanged. Similar muted activity was reported in Lap Vo (Dong Thap) and An Cu (Dong Thap).
At retail markets, rice prices were mostly flat from a day earlier. Nang Nhen rice was listed at 28,000 dong per kg, Huong Lai at 22,000 dong, and Thai long-grain fragrant rice at 20,000–22,000 dong per kg. Nang Hoa was quoted at 21,000 dong, Taiwanese fragrant rice at 20,000 dong, and Jasmine rice at 13,000–14,000 dong per kg. Common white rice stood at 16,000 dong per kg, while standard rice ranged from 12,000–13,000 dong per kg.
For paddy, fresh IR 50404 traded at 5,400–5,500 dong per kg, OM 5451 at 5,800–6,000 dong, OM 4218 at 6,200–6,400 dong, OM 18 at 6,500–6,700 dong, Dai Thom 8 at 6,500–6,700 dong, and OM 34 at 5,200–5,400 dong per kg compared with the previous day.
In producing provinces, pre-holiday trading was limited, though fresh paddy prices held firm. In An Giang and Can Tho, farmers mostly offered paddy for post-holiday harvest, with few deals concluded. Dong Thap, Ca Mau, Vinh Long and Tay Ninh also reported sluggish trading and relatively stable prices.
On the export market, Vietnam’s rice export prices were quoted by the Vietnam Food Association (VFA) at $415–$430 per ton for 5% broken fragrant rice, $315–$319 per ton for 100% broken rice, and $426–$430 per ton for Jasmine rice, Kinhtedothi reported.
