Vietnam rice market steady on Feb 11 due to sluggish trading activity

AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinhtedothi, Vietnam’s domestic rice and paddy markets were largely unchanged on Wednesday morning, with trading reported as subdued ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, according to provincial agricultural authorities and traders.
Fresh paddy prices in the Mekong Delta held steady. Data from the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Environment showed IR 50404 paddy was quoted at 5,400–5,500 dong per kg. OM 5451 stood at 5,800–6,000 dong per kg, while OM 4218 traded at 6,200–6,400 dong per kg. OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 were each priced at 6,500–6,700 dong per kg. OM 34 was reported at 5,200–5,400 dong per kg, unchanged from the previous day.
Market activity across key producing provinces remained muted. In An Giang, pre-holiday transactions were limited, with traders making scattered inquiries for post-holiday japonica harvests and few deals concluded. In Can Tho, farmers mainly offered paddy for delivery after the holiday, with prices little changed. Trading in Dong Thap, Ca Mau, Vinh Long and Tay Ninh was also described as slow, with prices broadly stable.
Export-grade rice prices were similarly steady. According to An Giang authorities and industry sources, IR 504 export rice was quoted at 8,000–8,100 dong per kg, while CL 555 stood at 8,200–8,300 dong per kg. OM 18 was priced at 8,900–9,100 dong per kg and OM 5451 at 8,800–8,900 dong per kg. OM 380 traded at 7,600–7,770 dong per kg. Dai Thom 8 was offered at 8,650–8,800 dong per kg, and Soc Thom at 7,500–7,600 dong per kg. Finished IR 504 rice was quoted at 9,500–9,700 dong per kg, little changed from the weekend.
By-products ranged between 7,600 and 11,500 dong per kg. Fragrant broken rice was quoted at 7,600–7,770 dong per kg, while rice bran stood at 10,500–11,500 dong per kg.
At wholesale markets in An Giang and Dong Thap, arrivals were limited and transactions were slow, with prices stable across most grades. Retail rice prices were also largely unchanged. Nang Nhen rice was listed at 28,000 dong per kg, Huong Lai at 22,000 dong per kg, and Thai long-grain fragrant rice at 20,000–22,000 dong per kg. Jasmine rice was quoted at 13,000–14,000 dong per kg, while common white rice traded around 16,000 dong per kg.
On the export market, Vietnam’s 5% broken fragrant rice was offered at $415–$430 per tonne, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA). Prices for 100% broken rice stood at $315–$319 per tonne, while Jasmine rice was quoted at $426–$430 per tonne.
Traders said the market had remained cautious, with most participants awaiting stronger demand signals after the holiday period.
