Vietnam's trade deficit with China exceeded US$115 billion

AsemconnectVietnam - In 2025, China continued to be Vietnam's largest trading partner, but it will also be the market with the largest trade deficit.
According to the calculations from the statistics recently released by the Customs Department, the value of goods imported from China in 2025 reached US$186 billion, an increase of 29% compared to 2024. This result helps China continue to be Vietnam's largest import market, accounting for nearly 41% of the country's total import value.
Major import categories from China were computers, electronic products and components (US$52.9 billion); machinery, equipment, tools and other spare parts (US$38.6 billion); various types of fabrics (US$10.4 billion); various types of telephones and components (US$9.8 billion); Plastic products (US$6.8 billion); iron and steel products (US$6 billion); various types of iron and steel (US$5.8 billion); textile, garment, leather, and footwear raw materials and accessories (US$4.4 billion); products made from base metals (US$4 billion).
Meanwhile, high-growth product groups were complete automobiles (up by 76.1%); automobile components and parts (up by 75.7%); products made from base metals (up by 59.6%); computers, electronic products and components (up by 52.6%); fertilizers (up by 41.9%); electrical wires and cables (up by 41%).
Conversely, in 2025, Vietnam's exports to China were estimated to reach US$70.4 billion, an increase of 14.7% compared to 2024. Major export product groups were computers, electronic products and components (US$16.9 billion); Telephones of all types and components (US$15 billion); machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts (US$5.5 billion).
Thus, in 2025, bilateral trade between Vietnam and China reached US$256.4 billion, of which Vietnam will have a trade deficit of US$115.6 billion with this neighboring country.
