Vietnam rice market quiet ahead of Lunar New Year on Feb 9

AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinhtedothi, Vietnam’s rice market was quiet on Monday morning, with prices largely unchanged as trading slowed ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, traders said.
In the Mekong Delta, paddy prices were steady amid thin transactions. According to updates from the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Environment, fresh IR 50404 paddy was quoted at 5,400–5,500 dong per kg, while OM 5451 traded at 5,800–6,000 dong per kg. OM 4218 paddy was priced at 6,200–6,400 dong per kg, and OM 18 ranged from 6,500–6,700 dong per kg. Dai Thom 8 paddy was also quoted at 6,500–6,700 dong per kg, while OM 34 was seen at 5,200–5,400 dong per kg, little changed from the end of last week.
Traders across several provinces said buying and selling activity remained sparse, with prices holding firm.
Rice prices in the domestic market were also largely stable as year-end demand remained subdued. Export-grade IR 504 rice was quoted at 8,000–8,100 dong per kg, while CL 555 stood at 8,200–8,300 dong per kg. OM 18 rice traded at 8,900–9,100 dong per kg, OM 380 at 7,600–7,770 dong per kg, and OM 5451 at 8,800–8,900 dong per kg. Dai Thom 8 rice was priced at 8,650–8,800 dong per kg, while Soc Thom rice was quoted at 7,500–7,600 dong per kg. Finished IR 504 rice was seen at 9,500–9,700 dong per kg, unchanged from late last week.
By-products were traded at between 7,600 and 11,500 dong per kg. Fragrant broken rice was quoted at 7,600–7,770 dong per kg, while rice bran ranged from 10,500–11,500 dong per kg.
Retail rice prices in local markets were flat compared with the previous session. Nang Nhen rice was the most expensive at around 28,000 dong per kg, while Huong Lai was sold at 22,000 dong per kg. Long-grain Thai fragrant rice ranged from 20,000–22,000 dong per kg, Nang Hoa stood at 21,000 dong per kg, and Taiwanese fragrant rice was quoted at 20,000 dong per kg. Jasmine rice was sold at 14,000–15,000 dong per kg, while common white rice was priced at around 16,000 dong per kg. Ordinary rice traded at 12,000–13,000 dong per kg.
In the export market, Vietnamese rice prices were little changed, according to the Vietnam Food Association. Fragrant rice with 5% broken was quoted at $415–$430 per metric ton, 100% broken rice at $315–$319 per ton, and Jasmine rice at $426–$430 per ton.
