Vietnam's wood and wood product export markets in 2025
Thursday, February 5,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam's wood export value in December of 2025 reached nearly US$1.7 billion, bringing the total export value of wood and wood products for the whole year to US$17.2 billion – an increase of nearly 6% compared to 2024.
2025 marked a historic milestone for Vietnam's wood industry as the export value of wood and wood products surpasses US$17 billion for the first time, despite challenges in the global market and the increasing impact of climate change.
According to statistics from the Vietnam Customs Department, Vietnam’s exports of wood and wood products reached nearly US$1.7 billion in December of 2025 alone, bringing the total export value for the year to US$17.2 billion – an increase of nearly 6% compared to 2024.
Vietnam’s main export markets for wood and wood products in 2025
In 2025, exports of wood and wood products to the US totaled US$9.46 billion, an increase of 4.4% compared to the previous year and accounting for approximately 55% of the industry's total export value. Vietnam continues to maintain its position as the largest supplier of furniture to the US market.
Meanwhile, the exports to China decreased sharply by 36% compared to the previous year to US$1.4 billion.
Vietnam's market share of furniture in the US increased significantly, from 40.5% in the first eight months of 2024 to 45.3% in the same period of 2025. Conversely, its market share in China decreased from 15.7% to 10.4%.
This demonstrated Vietnam's increasingly strong position as a leading supplier to the US market.
The exports to Japan recorded strong growth of over 23% in 2025, reaching over $2.1 billion. This marked the first time exports to Japan have exceeded $2 billion, allowing Japan to surpass China and become the second largest market for Vietnam's wood industry. Although exports to China dropped to third place, they still showed modest growth, reaching nearly $2.1 billion. This is the second consecutive year that exports to China have exceeded $2 billion.
Thus, the three largest export markets for Vietnamese wood and wood products – the US, Japan, and China – accounted for nearly 80% of Vietnam's total wood and wood product export value in 2025.
Other markets were significantly smaller, including South Korea with $709 million, Canada with $288 million, and the UK with $244 million.
Structure of Vietnam's wood and wood product exports in 2025
In terms of product structure, furniture remained the backbone of the export industry. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, furniture exports reached $9.4 billion in the first 11 months of 2025, accounting for nearly 61% of the total export value.
Several other product categories also recorded export values exceeding $1 billion, including wood chips at $2.2 billion; sawn timber, boards, and plywood at $2.1 billion; and wood pellets at $1.1 billion.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, exports of timber and forestry products were estimated to reach US$18.5 billion in 2025, an increase of approximately 6.6% compared to 2024, creating a trade surplus of nearly US$14.9 billion. The growth rate of forestry output value was estimated to reach 5.8%, achieving approximately 103% of this year's target.
According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Quoc Tri, the forestry sector aims to maintain forest cover at approximately 42% and achieve forestry export revenue of around US$18.5 billion in 2026.
The key priorities include expanding large timber forests, promoting the application of science and technology, accelerating digital transformation, and strengthening trade promotion.
The industry will focus on diversifying export markets to reduce dependence on major destinations, building the "Vietnamese Timber" brand, and developing forest environmental services and carbon markets.
