Gia Lai: Export surge, agricultural products continue to play a 'pillar' role

 Tuesday, February 3,2026

AsemconnectVietnam - Despite challenging market context, Gia Lai province's export turnover in 2025 still exceeded the plan; coffee and fruits continue to play a driving role in growth.

Gia Lai Department of Industry and Trade stated that although production and business activities still face many difficulties, thanks to proactive efforts of business community and right development orientation, the province's export turnover in 2025 still recorded positive results, exceeding set plan. In export structure, agricultural products continue to affirm their fundamental role, making an important contribution to local economic growth.
Exports maintain growth, exceeding targets
According to Gia Lai Department of Industry and Trade, the province's export turnover in 2025 is estimated at US$3,447.5 million, an increase of 14.7% compared to 2024 and nearly 19.7% higher than the plan (US$2,900 million). This result clearly reflects efforts of businesses in maintaining production, stabilizing market and increasing value of exported goods.
The province's key export product groups continue to play an important role, including: coffee, wood products, rubber latex, plastic products, garments, seafood, cassava and cassava products. Many businesses have intensified deep processing, gradually increasing proportion of value-added products, contributing to improved export efficiency.
Conversely, import turnover in 2025 is estimated at approximately US$950 million, an increase of 8.7% compared to the previous year. The main imported items are raw materials, machinery and equipment serving production and processing, creating a foundation for stable and sustainable export activities.
Expectations for a breakthrough in 2026
In overall picture of Gia Lai's exports, coffee continues to be the leading commodity with an estimated export value of approximately US$1.5 billion in 2025. According to Mr. Thai Nhu Hiep - Vice Chairman of Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA), this result not only comes from favorable market developments but also clearly reflects trend of shifting towards exporting high value-added products.
Many coffee businesses in the province have proactively restructured their raw material areas, invested in processing technology, built brands, and established close links with farmers. This has not only increased value of coffee beans but also contributed to creating stable livelihoods for tens of thousands of households, promoting rural economic development.
Besides coffee, fresh and processed fruit sectors have also shown positive signs. Gia Lai currently leads the Central Highlands region in passion fruit cultivation area with approximately 5,650 hectares, with an estimated production of over 210,000 tonnes per year.
Many large enterprises such as Nafoods Tay Nguyen Joint Stock Company, Dong Giao Export Food Joint Stock Company (DOVECO), and Quicornac Gia Lai Co., Ltd. have formed concentrated raw material areas, closely linking with cooperatives and farmers, meeting requirements for traceability and quality standards.
Bananas are also gradually asserting their position in agricultural export structure. Gia Lai Livestock Joint Stock Company (Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group) currently owns approximately 1,700 hectares of fruit trees, including 1,380 hectares of bananas certified under GlobalGAP. In 2025 alone, the company exported approximately 62,000 tonnes of bananas to markets such as Japan, South Korea and China.
According to Gia Lai Department of Industry and Trade, the province's agricultural products are now present in nearly 60 countries and territories, including many markets with high quality and technical standards. With an increasingly standardized raw material base, deeper involvement of processing businesses, and a sustainable development orientation, Gia Lai's agricultural exports are expected to continue to make breakthroughs in 2026.
