AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinhtedothi, Vietnam’s domestic pepper prices were traded between 149,000 and 152,000 dong per kg on the morning of Monday, showing mixed movements in the first month of 2026, traders said.

Pepper prices in Dak Lak were quoted at 152,000 dong per kg, while prices in Dak Nong (Lam Dong province) stood at 151,000 dong per kg. In Gia Lai and Dong Nai, prices were seen at 149,000 dong per kg. Meanwhile, pepper in Ba Ria–Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc was traded at 150,000 dong per kg.
Prices were unchanged from early trading on the previous day.
On a weekly basis, pepper prices rose across all major producing areas. Prices in Dak Lak and Dak Nong increased by 2,000 dong per kg, while Ba Ria–Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc gained 1,000 dong per kg. Prices in Gia Lai and Dong Nai edged up by 500 dong per kg.
Market participants said the weakening of the U.S. dollar had supported pepper prices during the previous week. However, the dollar later recovered, limiting further gains.
Overall in January 2026, prices in Dak Lak and Dak Nong recorded slight increases, while prices in other regions either declined or remained flat.
The U.S. dollar experienced sharp volatility last week, coming under heavy selling pressure in the first two sessions following remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday, Jan. 25, and falling to a four-year low on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
The greenback rebounded after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Wednesday, Jan. 27, that Washington maintained a strong-dollar policy and would not intervene to support the Japanese yen.
The recovery gained further momentum after President Trump announced former Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Warsh as the next chair of the U.S. central bank, to succeed Jerome Powell when his term ends in May.
Analysts said the dollar’s rebound was expected to weigh on commodity prices, including pepper, in the coming week.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), citing data from the International Trade Centre (ITC), U.S. pepper imports in November 2025 reached 5,547 tonnes, valued at $43.3 million. Import volumes fell 1.8% month on month, while import value rose 1.4%. Compared with November 2024, volumes plunged 46.4%.
Vietnam remained the largest supplier of pepper to the U.S. in November, shipping 4,809 tonnes, accounting for 86.7% of total imports. Indonesia followed with 243 tonnes (4.4%), while India supplied 116 tonnes (2.1%).
From Jan. 1 to Nov. 30, 2025, total U.S. pepper imports reached 64,961 tonnes, worth $574.6 million. Volumes fell 28.3% year on year, while import value rose 17.5%.
Vietnam accounted for 68.6% of U.S. pepper imports during the period, with shipments of 44,549 tonnes, down 37.0% year on year. Indonesia ranked second with 8,478 tonnes, up 27.7%, while India supplied 6,889 tonnes, up 0.7% from the previous year.
