Challenges for Vietnam's seafood exports in 2026
Thursday, January 29,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - According to experts, 2026 will be a challenging and difficult year for Vietnam's seafood exports, especially in the first half of the year. Current indicators suggest that export revenue in 2026 may stagnate and remain around $11 billion.
VASEP believes that the outlook for seafood exports will not be very bright, as businesses face pressure from tax issues, compliance costs, and anti-dumping risks, significantly impacting market prospects.
VASEP forecasts that the export value of the entire seafood industry in 2026 could be around US$11.6-11.8 billion, or equivalent to 2025.
Solutions to maintain seafood export growth in 2026
Many experts believe that, given the challenges in 2026, to maintain growth, the seafood industry needs to implement a comprehensive set of solutions such as: improving the ability to meet technical barriers, diversifying markets, and increasing the production of deeply processed products.
In terms of policy, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Government has approved many major programs and projects for the fisheries sector, most recently the Vietnam Fisheries Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045, with 11 national programs and projects on fisheries development that are proving effective.
Policies related to green transformation and digital transformation have been applied synchronously. The implementation of the circular economy in the fisheries sector has also made significant progress.
According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien, although 2026 is considered a challenging year, with the solutions that have been and are being implemented by the fisheries sector, it will contribute to the overall goal of the entire sector to strive to maintain growth towards the export target of 14-16 billion USD in 2030.
