AsemconnectVietnam - According to statistics from the Customs Department, Vietnam's exports to the Japanese market in December of 2025 reached US$2.34 billion, an increase of 0.1% compared to the previous month.

The total for 2025 was estimated to exceed US$26.7 billion, an increase of 8.7% compared to the same period last year.
With a population of over 126 million, Japan is a market with high import and consumption demand for products such as fish and processed fish products, shrimp, eel, meat, meat products, soybeans, cereal products, fresh and processed fruits and vegetables, coffee, etc.
Meanwhile, Vietnam is considered a country with strengths in these goods and has the capacity to supply the Japanese market effectively.
Currently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Vietnamese Trade Office in Japan, and related units are implementing many activities to promote export growth and expand markets. Accordingly, in addition to promoting and boosting the consumption of Vietnamese goods to Japanese partners and consumers, the Trade Office is actively introducing and calling for integrated investment cooperation from production, storage, logistics, and trade… to contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese products and goods.
Leading export turnover in 2025 was textiles and garments reaching US$4.5 billion, an increase of 6.1% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 17.1% of total exports. The next was transportation equipment and parts at US$3.2 billion, an increase of 8.6%, accounting for 12.2%. Following was the group of machinery, equipment, tools and parts at US$2.6 billion, accounting for 10% of total exports.
Several items achieved export growth in 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year; such as cashew nuts increased by 34.7%; coffee by 46.7%; and raw plastic materials by 30.9%.
Highly appreciating the potential for trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Japan, especially regarding agricultural products and food, experts from Japan noted that Vietnamese agricultural products and food are increasingly being accepted by Japanese consumers.
