Target of US$10 billion in fruit and vegetable export by 2026

 Tuesday, January 13,2026

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association proposes 6 key solutions to break through export turnover, bringing fruit and vegetable industry to conquer the record milestone of US$10 billion by 2026.

Strong export growth, creating a foundation for 2026
Total fruit and vegetable export turnover in 2025 is estimated at US$8-8.4 billion, an increase of US$1.3-1.4 billion compared to 2024, equivalent to 18%.
This result far exceeded initial forecasts, reflecting stable growth and increasing competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market.
These achievements are thanks to coordinated efforts and tireless endeavors of ministries, sectors, local governments, businesses, cooperatives and farmers. Role of Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is particularly noteworthy, for directing restructuring of production from small-scale and scattered to concentrated and modern; developing key, high-quality products that meet market demands; and actively participating in negotiations to open up international markets.
Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association have actively implemented activities to connect and link export businesses, cooperatives and local farmers. These activities not only expand markets but also enhance product value, strengthen coordination in the supply chain and promote sustainable development for the fruit industry.
In addition, the association organizes many trade promotion activities, bringing member businesses to participate in domestic and international trade fairs and exhibitions, yielding positive results; guiding producers and businesses to comply with domestic laws and regulations, while adhering to standards and regulations of export markets. As a result, Vietnamese goods are increasingly favored in international markets, and violations in export activities are minimized.
6 key solutions towards a target of $10 billion in export
Besides outstanding achievements, fruit and vegetable industry still faces some limitations. Fruit quality is inconsistent, percentage of products meeting standards remains low; and there is a problem of prohibited chemical residues on some products. Issuance and management of planting area codes, packaging facilities and supervision of testing facilities and certification for export goods are still inadequate, affecting exports, especially to Chinese market.
A Link between domestic production and consumption is not sustainable and is easily affected by market fluctuations. These are issues that need to be addressed to improve production and export efficiency in the coming years.
Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association also forecasts that in 2026, export value of fruits and vegetables could reach approximately $10 billion, a high but entirely feasible target. To achieve this goal, Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association propose 6 key solutions.
Firstly, improve product quality and safety. This requires ensuring that product appearance and quality meet international market demands. This needs to be communicated and thoroughly understood by producers and businesses in supply chain, creating a unified standard from farm to table.
Secondly, strengthen supervision and enforcement. Therefore, specialized agencies need to intensify inspection and supervision activities, apply strict sanctions and foster a sense of self-awareness among producers and businesses. The Association is ready to cooperate and participate in these activities.
Thirdly, develop a sustainable supply chain. This involves promoting connections between producers, export businesses and domestic market to minimize risks, improve economic efficiency and meet changing demands of the market.
“These proposals affirm position and elevate status of Vietnamese agricultural products; creating a solid foundation for fruit industry to continue its sustainable development, contributing to increasing export value and national prestige in the world market,” said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh.
Fourth, perfecting a modern traceability system capable of international connectivity, protecting rights of producers, businesses and consumers. Along with that, it is necessary to complete inspection, assessment and certification of exported agricultural products, ensuring quick customs clearance and enhancing reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products in international market.
Fifth, continuing to promote image of Vietnamese fruits domestically and internationally, enhancing brand recognition and product value. Expanding trade promotion activities, increasing frequency, diversifying forms, expanding market areas, and increasing funding to effectively support businesses in the association.
Sixth, the State supports establishment of a research and development fund for the industry, aiming to seek and apply new and modern technologies for research and development of plant varieties, post-harvest technology, preservation, extending the shelf life and consumption of Vietnamese products.
In recent years, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has implemented many projects to guide localities in implementing solutions to promote export growth, comprehensively participate in the global agricultural supply chain, and improve the quality and value of export products. To date, the Ministry has issued 9,336 planting area codes and 1,379 packaging facility codes for export of various fresh fruits such as dragon fruit, mango, star apple, banana, pomelo, passion fruit, longan, lychee, chili peppers, etc.
Acknowledging feedback from Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Duc Thang noted that from January 1, 2026, the industry will implement Vietnam Agricultural Product Traceability System, selecting durian as a pilot product and planning to apply it synchronously to most key agricultural products. The long-term goal by 2030 is to strive to achieve an export turnover of 100 billion USD, contributing to increasing the value of agricultural products and affirming Vietnam's reputation in the international market.
