Vietnam’s pepper exports reach US$1.66 billion in 2025

Pepper exports in the last month of the year continued their positive growth trend, contributing to bringing the total pepper export value for 2025 to its highest level ever at US$1.66 billion.
According to statistics from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in December of 2025, Vietnam exported 22,473 tonnes of various types of pepper, with a value of $146.4 million.
Compared to November of 2025, export volume increased by 20.9%, and export value increased by 20.5%. Compared to the same period in 2024, export volume increased by 47.2%, and export value increased by 45.5%. The average export price of black pepper in December reached US$6,485/tonne, and white pepper reached US$8,565/tonne, a decrease of 0.5% for black pepper but an increase of 6.1% for white pepper compared to the previous month.
The United States continued to be the largest export market for Vietnamese pepper, accounting for 27.7% with 6,233 tonnes, an increase of 35.9% compared to November 2025; followed by the UAE with 2,302 tonnes, China with 2,179 tonnes, Thailand with 1,261 tonnes, and Germany with 944 tonnes.
In 2025, Vietnam exported a total of 247,482 tonnes of various types of pepper, including 212,279 tonnes of black pepper and 35,203 tonnes of white pepper. The total export value reached over US$1.66 billion.
Compared to the previous year, although the export volume decreased slightly by about 1.2%, the export value increased by 26%. This was also the highest export value ever recorded for Vietnam's pepper industry. The average export price of black pepper in 2025 reached US$6,607/tonne, and white pepper reached US$8,629/tonne, representing increases of 36.2% for black pepper and 33.6% for white pepper respectively compared to the previous year.
Regarding markets, the impact of countervailing duties caused Vietnam's pepper exports to the United States to decrease by nearly 24% in 2025 compared to the previous year, but the US remains Vietnam's largest pepper importer. In 2025, pepper exports to the US are projected to reach 55,082 tonnes, accounting for 22.3% of total pepper exports for the year. Other important export markets include the UAE with 22,232 tonnes, accounting for 9%, an increase of 35.6%; China with 19,923 tonnes, accounting for 8.1%, an increase of 88%; India with 12,499 tonnes, accounting for 5.1%, an increase of 17.7%; and Germany with 11,820 tonnes, accounting for 4.8%, a decrease of 18.9% compared to the same period last year.
Conversely, in 2025, Vietnam will also import 42,688 tonnes of pepper for processing and re-export, with a total import value of US$266.2 million.
Compared to 2024, import volume increased by 16.2% while value increased by over 51%. Brazil is the largest supplier of pepper to Vietnam in 2025, reaching 19,404 tonnes, a 103% increase compared to the previous year and accounting for 45.5% of the market share.
Following this was Cambodia with 12,404 tonnes, an 82.5% increase, accounting for 29.1%, and Indonesia with 7,546 tonnes, a 56.1% decrease and accounting for 17.7% of the import market share.
Besides pepper, cinnamon exports in 2025 were also estimated to reach their highest volume and value ever. Total cinnamon exports for the year are projected to reach nearly 120,300 tonnes, generating $300 million; a 20.4% increase in volume and a 9.4% increase in value compared to 2024.
Among these, India was Vietnam's largest cinnamon consumer market, reaching 45,184 tonnes, a 25.9% increase and accounting for 37.6% of the market share. Next, the exports to 8the United States reached 13,583 tonnes, an increase of 22.6%, accounting for 11.3% of the market share, and Bangladesh reached 10,202 tonnes, an increase of 28.7% and accounting for 8.5% of the export market share.
