Industrial Production Index increased 9.9% year – on – year in Q4 of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s industrial production in the fourth quarter of 2025 maintained a positive growth trend, with the industrial production index increasing by 9.9% year-on-year.
According to the socio-economic report for December and the fourth quarter of 2025, published by the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance) on January 5th, 2026, the industrial production in the fourth quarter of 2025 maintained a positive growth trend, with the industrial production index increasing by 9.9% year-on-year due to businesses boosting production and preparing goods to meet year-end consumer and export demands. Overall in 2025, the industrial production index increased by 9.2% year-on-year, the highest increase since 2019.
Notably, in the fourth quarter of 2025, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 10.8%. The electricity production and distribution sector increased by 8.0%; the water supply, waste management and wastewater treatment sector increased by 5.3%; and the mining sector increased by 3.4%.
In 2025, the industrial production index (IIP) was estimated to increase by 9.2% compared to the previous year (8.2% in 2024). Specifically, the manufacturing sector increased by 10.5% (9.5% in 2024), contributing 8.4 percentage points to the overall increase; the electricity production and distribution sector increased by 6.7% (9.5% in 2024), contributing 0.6 percentage points; and the water supply, waste management and wastewater treatment sector increased by 7.8% (10.6% in 2024), contributing 0.1 percentage points. The mining sector increased by 0.5% (compared to a 6.3% decrease in 2024), contributing 0.1 percentage points to the overall growth.
The industrial production index in 2025 for several key second-level industries was estimated to increase significantly, such as motor vehicle manufacturing by 22.0%; manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products by 16.2%; manufacturing of rubber and plastic products by 15.7%; metal manufacturing by 15.4%; garment manufacturing by 13.2%; manufacturing of prefabricated metal products (excluding machinery and equipment) by 12.5%; chemical and chemical product manufacturing by 12.4%; leather and related products manufacturing by 11.1%; food processing by 11.0%; coke and refined petroleum product manufacturing by 10.8%; paper and paper product manufacturing by 10.4%. The production of beds, wardrobes, tables, and chairs increased by 9.4%; production of electronic products, computers, and optical products increased by 8.3%.
Conversely, the Industrial Production Index (IIP) of some sectors increased only slightly or decreased: Hard coal and lignite mining increased by 2.5%; crude oil and natural gas extraction decreased by 2.5%. The industrial production index in 2025 compared to the previous year increased in all 34 localities. Some localities achieved relatively high IIP growth due to the processing and manufacturing industry; and the electricity production and distribution industry.
The highlight was the high growth in some key industrial products in 2025 compared to the previous year: automobiles increased by 39.1%; rolled steel increased by 17.6%; televisions increased by 17.4%; aquatic feed and everyday clothing both increased by 13.8%; cement increased by 13.6%; leather shoes and sandals increased by 13.3%; processed seafood increased by 11.1%; NPK compound fertilizer increased by 10.7%.
The consumption index of the entire manufacturing industry in December of 2025 decreased by 0.4% compared to the previous month and increased by 12.2% compared to the same period last year. Overall in 2025, the consumption index of the entire manufacturing industry increased by 9.9% compared to 2024 (the previous year increased by 11.4%).
