Vietnam's coffee exports to the EU have increased sharply thanks to EVFTA in the first 9 months of 2025
Friday, November 21,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - The EU–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), effective since August 2020, has played a crucial role in boosting Vietnam’s coffee exports to the EU. According to data from Vietnam Customs, export value rose sharply from just USD64 million in August 2020 to a record USD466 million in March 2025—an increase of 7.2 times. After declining from April to August 2025 due to limited late-crop supply, exports rebounded strongly in September 2025.
Based on Vietnam Customs data, Vietnam’s coffee exports to the EU in September 2025 reached 35,591 tonnes, valued at more than USD188.6 million—up 6.2% in volume and 9.7% in value compared with the previous month, and up 93.7% in volume and 81% in value year-on-year.
In the first nine months of 2025, Vietnam exported more than 516.5 thousand tonnes of coffee to the EU, worth USD2.9137 billion—up 19.5% in volume and 74.29% in value against the same period in 2024. The EU accounted for 40.8% of Vietnam’s total coffee exports in September 2025 and 41.5% in the first nine months, higher than the 36% and 38% shares recorded last year. This indicates a rising market share of Vietnamese coffee in the EU thanks to the EVFTA.

Product structure of Vietnam’s coffee exports to the EU
Vietnam’s coffee exports to the EU are still dominated by green, unroasted, non-decaffeinated coffee. Although deep-processed coffee remains a small share, it has grown rapidly compared with last year, reinforcing Vietnam’s position in the EU market.
- Unroasted, non-decaffeinated coffee
– September 2025 export value: USD164.3 million (+30% MoM; +83% YoY)
– 9M 2025 export value: USD2.598 billion (+107% YoY)
– Share: 89% - Coffee extracts and concentrates
– September export value: USD19.2 million (-17% MoM; +20% YoY)
– 9M 2025: USD200 million (+52.5% YoY)
– September export value: USD4.1 million (-117% MoM; -43% YoY)
– 9M 2025: USD109.9 million (+42% YoY)
Overall, unroasted coffee rebounded strongly in September after months of decline. The other two categories, although down month-on-month, still showed strong year-on-year growth, indicating improved competitiveness of all three Vietnamese coffee product groups in this demanding market.
Assessment of the EVFTA’s impact
Vietnam Customs data confirms that Vietnam’s coffee exports to the EU surged after the EVFTA took effect. From about USD64 million in August 2020, export value jumped to USD466 million in March 2025 (7.2-fold increase). Though exports declined between April and August 2025, they rebounded sharply in September, rising nearly 10% month-on-month.
Compared with the pre-EVFTA period, the structure of coffee exports to EU member states has shifted significantly. However, the top three importers remain Germany, Italy and Spain.
– Germany’s share fell from 35% to 32%
– Italy’s share fell from 22% to 19%
– Belgium’s share fell from 12% to 8%
– Spain’s share rose from 17% to 18%
– The Netherlands jumped from 2% to 10%
– Germany’s share fell from 35% to 32%
– Italy’s share fell from 22% to 19%
– Belgium’s share fell from 12% to 8%
– Spain’s share rose from 17% to 18%
– The Netherlands jumped from 2% to 10%
According to Vietnam Customs, the export price of Vietnamese coffee to the EU nearly tripled between January 2020 and August 2025, peaking at USD5,859/tonne in October 2024. In the first nine months of 2025, prices fell after reaching USD5,804.6/tonne in March but edged up again in September compared with August.
