Go Global - driving force for Vietnam's export breakthrough

 Tuesday, November 11,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - In 2025, Vietnam is facing the opportunity to create a new breakthrough in its journey to the global market, when import-export turnover is forecast to reach 900 billion USD and exports exceed 450 billion USD.

However, to achieve this goal, the requirement is not only to increase in quantity but also to increase value and master the production chain - from raw materials to brands.
Exports maintain strong growth momentum, consolidating the leading position
According to the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance), the total import-export turnover of goods in the first 10 months of 2025 reached 762.44 billion USD, an increase of 17.4% over the same period of 2024; the exports alone reached 391 billion USD, an increase of 16.2%. The Ministry of Industry and Trade forecasts that in 2025, the total turnover may reach a new milestone of about 900 billion USD. This is an important foundation to strengthen confidence in Vietnam's export prospects towards the group of leading countries in the world.
In each industry, the growth is even more evident. The textile and garment industry - one of the pillar industries, if in 2001 it only reached 1.96 billion USD, by 2025 it had skyrocketed to 46-46.5 billion USD, affirming a long step forward in technology, chain management and production organization.
However, experts also pointed out internal "bottlenecks": domestic private enterprises currently only account for about 40% of export turnover; the weakest link is still weaving and dyeing - the link that determines the ability to proactively source raw materials and environmental standards and origin.
In agriculture, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment expects export turnover to exceed 70 billion USD in 2025. Vietnam continues to maintain rice exports of about 8 million tonnes, surpassing Thailand, holding the second position in the world. Vietnam has exported agricultural products to more than 190 countries and territories - a clear demonstration of the position of Vietnamese agriculture in the global food supply chain.
Aquatic products maintained an export value of approximately 10 billion USD, continuing to be in the group of 3 largest exporting countries in the world, just behind China and Norway. Vietnamese coffee maintained its second position globally, just behind Brazil - annual output of about 1.6-1.8 million tonnes, export turnover of more than 4.5 billion USD. Vietnamese fruits and vegetables have risen to the group of 15 largest exporting countries in the world, thanks to deep processing capacity and the breakthrough of many businesses.
Vietnam's supporting industry is making progress but is only participating in the intermediate segment. The important goal in the coming time is to participate in the final product stage - where the added value is high. Vietnam is investing heavily in the production of raw materials and basic electronic components to create a foundation to reach the international market.
