Major export product groups of Vietnam to the EU in the first eight months of 2025
Tuesday, October 28,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - According to data from the Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s total export value to the EU reached USD4.82 billion in August 2025, down slightly by 0.57% from July 2025 but still up 5.82% year-on-year.
By product category, computers, electronic products and components continued to lead with USD5.82 billion, accounting for 15.72% of total exports to the EU, an increase of 11.03% from the same period last year. In August alone, this group reached USD971 million, up 22.16% month-on-month and 11.8% year-on-year, indicating stable demand in Europe’s technology market.
Telephones and components ranked second with USD4.87 billion (13.17%), up 4.89% year-on-year. In August, exports in this group rose 7.77% from July and surged 50.11% year-on-year — the strongest growth among major industrial exports.
Machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts reached USD4.61 billion (+4.53%), accounting for 12.45%. In August, this group remained relatively stable (+0.73% MoM), though slightly down 1.91% YoY, reflecting steady industrial order flows.
Footwear and textiles & garments — traditional key export sectors — experienced seasonal fluctuations.
· Footwear: USD3.88 billion (+7.98%), 10.48% share; August down 14.57% MoM and 6.6% YoY
· Textiles & garments: USD3.11 billion (+13.12%), 8.41% share; August down 20.09% MoM and 2.76% YoY
→ Impacted by seasonality and order adjustments in Q3.
Transport vehicles and parts reached USD993 million (+10.84%), though August decreased 22.22% MoM due to shipment scheduling adjustments.
In the agri-food sector, coffee remained a standout, achieving USD2.66 billion (+74.26% YoY), accounting for 7.2% of total exports. Despite a 13.05% MoM decline, export value still rose 6.97% YoY, reflecting sustained demand and high prices.
Cashew nuts recorded USD680 million (+24.98%), with August maintaining a stable trend;Seafood reached USD737 million (+9.33%);Fruits and vegetables achieved USD240 million (+45.1%);Wood and wood products maintained recovery momentum (+12.79%).
By contrast, iron and steel exports weakened sharply due to subdued construction demand in Europe: USD983 million, down 34.4% YoY, and August recorded a steep decline of 56.6% YoY.
A gradual shift toward processed products was seen as exports of steel products still grew 12.17% YoY.
Chemicals-plastics showed divergent performance, while rubber exports suggested short-term recovery momentum in August.
Pepper displayed strong value-added growth thanks to rising export prices.
Meanwhile, textile-garment accessories, bags and wickerwork products continued to decline due to rising input costs and slower EU retail demand.
Overall, the export structure to the EU in August 2025 remained stable and diversified. Strong growth in electronics and phones helped compensate for declines in footwear, textiles and steel. Core agricultural products — coffee, cashew nuts, seafood and fruits-vegetables — continued to serve as the main growth drivers.
Looking ahead to Q4/2025, if EU consumption and orders recover, export value could accelerate once again, with the potential to surpass USD55 billion for the full year.
