Vietnam’s goods exports to the EU recorded strong growth in the first eight months of 2025, driven by the EVFTA

 Tuesday, October 28,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - The European Union (EU) continues to be one of Vietnam’s key export markets and a major contributor to the country’s total trade turnover. Since the EU–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) took effect, Vietnam’s export activities to the EU have maintained stable growth momentum, thereby supporting economic expansion and improving Vietnam’s trade balance.

In August 2025, although the European economy remained affected by inflation and monetary tightening policies, and consumer demand slowed in some member states, Vietnamese goods still retained competitive advantages — particularly in product categories with high quality and compliance with environmental standards. Vietnamese exporters have actively taken advantage of EVFTA tariff preferences, adjusted production strategies, diversified markets, and strengthened technical standards and traceability to comply with the EU’s new regulations such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
Vietnam’s major export products to the EU continue to focus on the manufacturing sector, especially mobile phones and components, computers and electronic products, machinery and equipment, textiles, and footwear — all of which hold significant shares and play essential roles in the export structure. In addition, agricultural and seafood products continued to perform well thanks to tariff incentives, notably coffee, cashew nuts, seafood, and fruit and vegetables. Coffee remained a highlight with strong growth, reflecting stable EU consumption demand for sustainably sourced products.
By market, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, and Poland remain the key destinations. Germany continues to lead due to strong demand for electronic products, machinery, and textiles, while the Netherlands acts as a major transshipment hub within the EU thanks to its advanced seaport logistics. France, Italy, and Spain recorded solid growth in agricultural, seafood, and consumer goods.
In the first eight months of 2025, Vietnam recorded a trade surplus of approx. USD22.9 billion with the EU, with total export value estimated at USD36.9 billion, up 8.4% year-on-year. The results reaffirm the EU as Vietnam’s second-largest export market after the United States and as a critical region for promoting sustainable export growth and green transformation in Vietnam’s production sector.
Export value
According to the latest data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in August 2025, Vietnam’s export turnover to the EU was approx. USD5.12 billion, up 6.4% from July 2025 and 9.8% compared with August 2024.
During the first eight months of 2025, exports to the EU totaled USD36.9 billion, up 8.4% year-on-year, reflecting stable and positive export growth.
Key export categories maintained solid performance:
· Phones, computers, and electronics: USD10.5 billion, +8.9%
· Machinery and equipment: USD3.8 billion, +7.6%
· Textiles: USD4.5 billion, +9.5%
· Footwear: USD3.5 billion, +11.1%
· Agricultural products (coffee, cashew nuts, pepper, fruit & vegetables): USD3.8 billion, +15.3%
· Seafood: USD1.95 billion, +12.4%
Agricultural and seafood exports continued to record strong growth thanks to increasing EU demand for sustainably sourced products. Export values improved not only in volume but also in quality and value-added, demonstrating enterprises’ efforts in meeting EU market requirements.
Share in total exports
In August 2025, exports to the EU accounted for 11.1% of Vietnam’s total export turnover.
Across eight months, the share reached 12.4%, slightly higher year-on-year, reaffirming the EU’s role as a strategic trading partner that contributes to Vietnam’s green transition, technological innovation, and sustainable production.
Exports to key EU member states
According to Vietnam Customs, in August 2025, Vietnam’s exports to the EU reached USD4.816 billion, down 0.57% month-on-month but up 5.82% year-on-year.
Across eight months, exports reached USD36.996 billion, up 8.36% year-on-year.
The Netherlands remained the largest partner, followed by Germany, Italy, Spain, and France. Some markets such as Lithuania, Austria, and Sweden posted exceptional double-digit growth, while others including Ireland, Slovakia, Finland, and Baltic/Balkan states showed declines.
