Vietnam - South Africa trade reached over 1.02 billion USD in 9 months of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to preliminary statistics from the Customs Department, the two-way trade relations between Vietnam and South Africa in the first 9 months of 2025 reached over 1.02 billion USD, down by 28.72% compared to the same period of 2024.

In particular, goods imported from South Africa into Vietnam reached nearly 396.38 million USD in the first 9 months of 2025, a sharp decrease of 52.64% compared to the first 9 months of 2024.
In September of 2025 alone, import turnover decreased by 59.06% compared to August of 2025, reaching nearly 14.54 million USD and also decreased by 75.4% compared to September of 2024.
In the opposite direction, the exports of goods to South Africa reached over 627.97 million USD in the first 9 months of 2025, an increase of 4.6% compared to the first 9 months of 2024. Thus, Vietnam's trade surplus with South Africa in the first 9 months reached nearly 231.59 million USD, while in the first 9 months of 2024 Vietnam's trade deficit with South Africa was nearly 236.68 million USD.
In 2024, the two-way trade relations between Vietnam and South Africa reached nearly 1.72 billion USD, an increase of 47.25% compared to 2023. The trade deficit with South Africa in 2024 reached 173.02 million USD, while in 2023 Vietnam's trade surplus with this market was 359.59 million USD.
The largest group of imported goods from South Africa in the past 9 months was vegetables and fruits, reaching over 38.74 million USD, accounting for 9.77% of the total import turnover of all kinds of goods from this market, down 17.68% compared to the first 9 months of 2024. The group of imported iron and steel from South Africa ranked second in terms of turnover, reaching 8.57 million USD, accounting for 2.16% of the total turnover, a sharp increase of 68.29%. Next, the group of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts reached nearly 3.78 million USD, accounting for 0.95%, a sharp increase of 129.7%; common metals reached 3.43 million USD, accounting for 0.86% of the total turnover, a decrease of 53.43%.
