AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 9 months of 2025, coal imports reached 50.56 million tonnes, equivalent to 5.17 billion USD, up 1.2% in volume but down 16.2% in value compared to the first 9 months of 2024.

According to statistics from the Customs Department, in September of 2025, the whole country imported 3.96 million tonnes of coal, equivalent to 457.27 million USD, priced at 115.5 USD/tonne, down by 7.9% in volume, but up by 21.4% in value and up by 31.7% in price compared to August of 2025. Compared to September of 2024, it also decreased by 0.3% in volume, but increased by 3.8% in value and increased by 4.1% in price.
In the first 9 months of 2025, the total import value of this group of goods reached 50.56 million tonnes, equivalent to 5.17 billion USD, up by 1.2% in volume but down by 16.2% in value compared to the first 9 months of 2024. The average price in the first 9 months of 2025 reached 102.2 USD/tonne, down by 17.1%.
Coal imported to Vietnam mainly comes from 3 markets: Australia, Indonesia and Russia; these 3 markets alone accounted for over 83.1% of the total coal import value of the country; of which imports from Australia reached 16.74 million tonnes, equivalent to over 2.03 billion USD, the average price was 121.4 USD/tonne, accounting for 33.1% of total volume and 39.3% of total coal import turnover of the country, increased by 21.4% in volume but decreased by 5% in turnover compared to the first 9 months of 2024, the import price decreased by 21.8%.
The second largest market supplying this group of goods to Vietnam was Indonesia, reaching 19.71 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 1.62 billion USD, priced at 82.2 USD/tonne, accounting for 39% of the total volume and 31.3% of the total turnover, down by 0.1% in volume, down by 11.5% in turnover and down by 11.4% in price compared to the same period of 2024.
Coal imports from the Russian market accounted for 9.9% of the total volume and 12.5% in total turnover, reaching 4.98 million tonnes, worth of 644.35 million USD, up by 8.3% in volume, but down by 19.5% in turnover and down by 25.7% in price compared to the same period last year.
