Liquefied petroleum gas import markets in first 9 months of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 9 months of 2025, the whole country imported nearly 2.42 million tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas, worth of over 1.49 billion USD, with an average price of 618.13 USD/tonne.

According to preliminary statistics from the Customs Department, in September of 2025, the whole country imported 267,561 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas, equivalent to over 148.37 million USD, with an average price of 554.53 USD/tonne, down by 21.97% in volume, down by 22.46% in value and down by 0.62% in price compared to August of 2025.
In the first 9 months of 2025, the country imported nearly 2.42 million tonnes of liquefied gas, worth of over 1.49 billion USD, with an average price of 618.13 USD/tonne, up by 1.15% in volume, but down by 3.08% in turnover and down by 4.18% in price compared to the first 9 months of 2024. Vietnam imported the most liquefied gas from 3 markets: Malaysia, Qatar and China; of which, Malaysia was the largest market. In September of 2025, imports from this market decreased by 6.61% in volume, down by 7.21% in turnover and down by 0.64% in price compared to August of 2025, reaching 25,592 tonnes, equivalent to over 15.38 million USD, price 601.16 USD/tonne. Compared to September of 2024, it increased sharply by 98.43% in volume, 60.8% in value but decreased by 18.96% in price. In general, in the first 9 months of 2025, 439,981 tonnes of liquefied gas were imported from the Malaysian market, equivalent to over 291.89 million USD, priced at 663.42 USD/tonne, up by 55.87% in volume, 55.98% in value and 0.07% in price compared to the first 9 months of 2024; accounting for 18.21% of the total volume and 19.54% of the total import turnover of liquefied gas in the country.
Qatar was the second largest liquefied gas import market of Vietnam. In the first 9 months of 2025, the country imported 261,092 tonnes of liquefied gas from this market, equivalent to nearly 162.4 million USD, import price 622 USD/tonne, down by 48.45% in volume, down by 47.6% in turnover but up by 1.65% in price compared to the first 9 months of 2024, accounting for 10.81% of the total volume and 10.87% of the total turnover.
In September of 2025 alone, Vietnam continued not to import liquefied gas from the Qatar market. The next was the Chinese market. In September of 2025, the imports reached 18,844 tonnes, equivalent to over 11.26 million USD, priced at 597.63 USD/tonne, down by 44.8% in volume, down by 44.53% in turnover compared to August of 2025 but prices increased by 0.48%. Compared to September of 2024, it also decreased by 3.39% in volume, down by 19.53% in turnover and down by 16.7% in price. In total, in the first 9 months of 2025, 222,161 tonnes of liquefied gas were imported from China worth of nearly 150.15 million USD, priced at 675.86 USD/tonne, up by 0.81% in volume, but down by 5.02% in turnover and down by 5.78% in price compared to the first 9 months of 2024; accounting for 9.19% of the total volume and 10.05% of the total liquefied gas import turnover of the whole country.
Notably, liquefied gas imported from the South Korean market in the first 9 months of this year continued to increase sharply compared to the first 9 months of 2024, up by 269.92% in volume, up by 242.04% in turnover, although only accounting for a small proportion, accounting for 1.64% of the total volume and 1.8% of the total liquefied gas import turnover of the whole country, reaching 39,689 tonnes, equivalent to over 26.95 million USD. In September of 2025 alone, the imports from South Korea decreased sharply compared to August of 2025, down by 25.81% in volume and down by 20.42% in turnover, reaching 4,409 tonnes, equivalent to 2.72 million USD.
In contrast, liquefied petroleum gas imports from the Thai market continued to decline sharply by 93.29% in volume and 93.16% in value compared to the first 9 months of 2024, reaching only 1,737 tonnes, equivalent to 1.27 million USD, accounting for 0.07% of the total volume and 0.09% of the total liquefied petroleum gas import turnover of the whole country.
Liquefied petroleum gas imports from the Saudi Arabian market also declined sharply by 67.63% in volume and 70.83% in value compared to the first 9 months of 2024, reaching 96,292 tonnes, equivalent to 56.65 million USD, accounting for 3.98% of the total volume and 3.79% of the total liquefied petroleum gas import turnover of the whole country.
