Monday, October 13,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - Australia is considered a potential market for Vietnamese enterprises, accordingly, there are 4 product groups and 2 service groups with opportunity to boost exports to this market.
4 potential product groups
Sharing at Vietnam - Australia Economic Forum 2025 organized by the University of Economics (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) in coordination with relevant units in Hanoi recently, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hiep - Vietnam Trade Consul in Australia said that in the first 8 months of 2025, bilateral trade growth between Vietnam and Australia reached 8.9 billion USD. In which, Vietnamese products exported to Australia include electronics, coffee, seafood and Australian products exported to Vietnam include coal, cotton, iron, etc.
Also according to Mr. Nguyen Manh Hiep, there are 4 product groups of Vietnamese enterprises that have the opportunity to export to Australian market. In which, the first product group is electronic equipment products, specifically details for mobiphone products.
In 2024, Vietnamese enterprises exported these products to the Australian market in large volumes, reaching a turnover of more than 1 billion USD, a growth of more than 100% compared to 2023.
Forecasting prospect of exporting these products to the Australian market in the coming time, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hiep said that Vietnamese enterprises have a lot of potential and room, especially in the context of a more stable tariff policy.
The second group of products that can conquer consumers in Australian market is apparel and footwear. Accordingly, the export of Vietnamese textile and garment products to the Australian market in 2024 reached more than 500 million USD, an increase of more than 20% compared to 2023.
Upward trend is forecast to be maintained in 2025 when Vietnam is being evaluated as a leading partner in supplying clothing and footwear products to the Australian market.
Third product group is agricultural, forestry and aquatic products. According to Mr. Nguyen Manh Hiep, Australian market is very attractive for these products and has had positive growth in recent times. This is a great opportunity for cooperation for Vietnamese enterprises operating in the agricultural sector.
Fourth product group that is making an impression on Australian market, according to Mr. Nguyen Manh Hiep, is construction and construction materials. Although Australia is a market with high quality requirements for these products, Vietnamese construction material exporting enterprises can still meet any requirements from the Australian market with competitive prices.
It is forecasted that in coming time, construction projects in Australian market will increase due to development of infrastructure projects and new housing construction under policy of Australian Government, which will open up great opportunities for Vietnamese construction material manufacturing enterprises to expand their export markets.
2 promising service groups
In addition to the 4 product groups that Vietnam has an advantage in exporting to Australian market, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hiep also said that there are 2 service groups in Vietnam that have opportunity to cooperate with Australian market.
The first is software and ICT (software and information technology) service group. Currently, Vietnam has a well-trained IT workforce that can meet needs of demanding and selective markets such as the US and Australia.
"Vietnam's IT experts have good professional knowledge, but they still need to improve further, helping them to be more competitive in international market" - Mr. Nguyen Manh Hiep affirmed.
The second service that is considered to have potential for Australian market is tourism services. If this service can be developed, it will not only benefit Vietnamese tourism industry and Vietnamese economy, but also benefit Australia.
Because both Australia and Vietnam have very beautiful and unique natural landscapes. In recent years, tourism industry of two countries has had positive growth thanks to establishment of direct flights from Vietnam to major cities in Australia.
According to economic experts, Australia is a market with an average income among the highest in the world, consumers are willing to pay for quality, safe and sustainable products. This is also a developed economy, with a high standard of living and strict import standards. Australians prefer products of natural origin, environmentally friendly and transparent origin.
From above analysis, it can be seen that opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises to export products and services to Australian market are very open, but also extremely challenging. Accordingly, to effectively conquer the Australian market, Vietnamese enterprises need to carefully research and study market and provide suitable products. In particular, these products, in addition to quality, must be products manufactured according to green trends, applying advanced technology and being environmentally friendly.
