Thursday, October 9,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - With export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery products in the first 9 months reaching 52.31 billion USD and a surplus of 15.93 billion USD, the whole year of 2025 could reach 67-70 billion USD if current rate is maintained.
On morning of October 6, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment held a press conference to inform about the production and business results in September and the first 9 months of 2025. Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien chaired the meeting.
Many agricultural export products recorded double-digit export growth
At the press conference, Mr. Tran Gia Long - Deputy Director of the Department of Financial Planning (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) - said that export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery products in September 2025 is estimated at 6.35 billion USD, up 11.8% over the same period in 2024. In the first 9 months of the year, total export turnover reached 52.31 billion USD, up 14%. Trade surplus is estimated at 15.93 billion USD, up 17.6% over the same period last year.
In terms of structure, export value of agricultural products reached 28.51 billion USD (up 16.8%), livestock products reached 447.5 million USD (up 18.6%), aquatic products reached 8.12 billion USD (up 12.3%), forestry products reached 13.41 billion USD (up 7.4%), production inputs reached 1.82 billion USD (up 33.1%) and salt reached 8 million USD (up 96.3%).
The United States, China and Japan continued to be the three largest export markets, accounting for 20.6%, 20% and 7.1% of market share, respectively. Export turnover to the United States increased by 9%, China increased by 5.9% and Japan increased by 23.9% compared to the same period in 2024.
Many key products recorded strong growth. Coffee was a bright spot, reaching 1.2 million tons in first nine months of the year, worth 6.98 billion USD, up 61.4% in value over the same period. The average export price reached 5,658.5 USD/tonne, up 45.3%. Rubber reached 1.3 million tons with a value of 2.32 billion USD; average price increased by nearly 11%.
For rice, exports reached 7 million tonnes, worth 3.55 billion USD, almost unchanged in volume but down 18.5% in value due to the average export price falling to 509 USD/tonne. In contrast, fruits and vegetables continued to maintain growth momentum, with a total turnover of 6.22 billion USD in the first nine months (up 10.3%), of which exports to China accounted for nearly 58%.
Cashew nuts reached 552,300 tonnes, worth 3.75 billion USD, up 18.9% in value; Average export price increased by 17.5%. Pepper decreased by 6.3% in volume but increased by 28.7% in value, reaching 1.27 billion USD thanks to strong price increases.
Aquatic products reached 8.12 billion USD in turnover, up 12.3%; the three largest markets were China (19.8%), the United States (17.3%) and Japan (15.2%). Wood and wood product exports reached 12.52 billion USD (up 7.1%), of which the United States accounted for more than half of the market share.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, this result creates a positive foundation for the agricultural sector to complete and exceed the export targets of 2025, while strengthening the position of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market.
It is expected that growth and export targets will reach high levels
Speaking at the press conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien emphasized that the international context still has many potential factors of instability, and even deeper conflicts. Domestically, the two-level government system has made many efforts, but its operation is still not really smooth, and needs to continue to be resolved.
In particular, in 2025, Vietnam will be affected by three major storms. Storm No.10 alone caused heavy damage to people and property. Preliminary reports immediately after the storm showed that the damage was about 14,541 billion VND and 57 people died and went missing; to date, the total damage is estimated at about 0.3% of GDP. On the night of the storm, the Prime Minister directed a summary of the damage of all three storms to have timely response and recovery measures.
In this context, the resolutions and conclusions of the Party and the Government have been seriously implemented, with timely mechanisms and policies. Drastic, flexible and effective direction of the Government and the Prime Minister has helped economy maintain positive growth momentum. Thanks to the careful preparation and participation of ministries, branches and localities, the results of the first 9 months of the year have achieved many positive signs. It is expected that this year, growth and export targets will reach high levels. Food output is expected to reach several million tons; meat about 8.4-8.5 million tons; aquatic products about 7.26 million tonnes, aiming for a total output of 9.6-9.7 million tonnes. Export turnover in the first 9 months reached 52.31 billion USD, with August and September alone increasing by 6.38 billion USD. If the current rate is maintained in the last three months of the year, the total export turnover for the year could reach 67-70 billion USD. The trade surplus is currently at 15.93 billion USD, up 17.6% over the same period.
“There have been positive changes in the structure of the agricultural, forestry and fishery export market. China accounts for about 20% of export turnover, while the European market has expanded, reaching 7.42 billion USD in the first 9 months of the year, an increase of more than 40% over the same period and is expected to reach 9-10 billion USD for the whole year”, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien emphasized.
According to Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, this result reflects the effectiveness of directing and organizing the implementation of export policies, with flexible coordination between ministries, branches and localities. The results achieved not only help the agricultural sector complete the 2025 target but also create a solid foundation for long-term planning, especially preparing for activities to celebrate the Agriculture - Environment Day on November 14.
