Industrial production index saw double-digit growth in third quarter of 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to data released by the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance), the industrial production index (IIP) in the third quarter of 2025 was estimated to increase by 10% over the same period last year.

According to the General Statistics Office, enterprises have stepped up production to serve the export of goods, mining activities, and electricity production have been more active in recent months, which is the main reason for the double-digit growth of the industrial production index in the third quarter of 2025. The industrial production index in the third quarter of 2025 was estimated to increase by 10.0% over the same period last year. In the first 9 months of 2025, it was estimated to increase by 9.1% over the same period last year, of which the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 10.4%, the highest increase since 2020.
Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 10.4% (increased by 9.6% in the same period of 2024), contributing 8.4 percentage points to the overall increase; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 6.1% (increased by 10.8% in the same period in 2024), contributing 0.6 percentage points; the water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment industry increased by 8.8% (increased by 9.7% in the same period of 2024), contributing 0.1 percentage points; the mining industry increased by 0.1% (decreased by 6.9% in the same period of 2024), contributing 0.01 percentage points.
Notably, the 9-month production index of some key secondary industries increased compared to the same period last year, such as motor vehicle production increased by 26.0%; rubber and plastic product production increased by 17.3%; the production of other non-metallic mineral products increased by 15.6%; the production of garments increased by 13.5%; the production of prefabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) increased by 12.7%; the production of leather and related products increased by 12.5%; the production of metal increased by 11.3%; production of food processing increased by 10.6%; the production of beds, cabinets, tables and chairs increased by 10.4%; the production of paper and paper products and wood processing and production of products from wood, bamboo, rattan, etc. both increased by 10.3%; the production of other means of transport increased by 9.4%; and production of electronic products, computers and optical products increased by 7.9%.
On the contrary, the IIP index of some industries increased slightly or decreased, such as the production of beverages increased by 3.8%; the exploitation of crude oil and natural gas decreased by 4.7%.
Industrial production index increased in 34 localities
The report of the General Statistics Office also showed that the industrial production index in the first 9 months of 2025 compared to the same period last year increased in all 34 localities.
Some localities had a fairly high increase in IIP due to the high increase in the processing and manufacturing industry; the electricity production and distribution industry. On the contrary, some localities had a low increase in IIP due to the low or decreasing increase in the processing and manufacturing industry; the mining industry and the electricity production and distribution industry.
Some key industrial products in the first 9 months increased compared to the same period last year, such as automobiles increased by 52.7%; televisions increased by 21.8%; NPK mixed fertilizer increased by 15.9%; cement increased by 15.3%; rolled steel increased by 14.7%; casual wear and leather shoes and sandals increased by 14.4%; aquatic feed increased by 14.2%; diameter increased by 12.8%. On the other hand, some products decreased compared to the same period last year, such as gaseous natural gas decreased by 8.3%; synthetic fiber textiles decreased by 2.4%; crude oil decreased by 1.1%.
In addition, the consumption index of the entire processing and manufacturing industry in September increased by 0.1% compared to the previous month and increased by 9.3% compared to the same period last year. In the first 9 months of 2025, the consumption index of the entire processing and manufacturing industry increased by 9.1% compared to the same period of 2024 (in the same period of 2024, it increased by 12.5%).
In addition, the inventory index of the entire processing and manufacturing industry as of September 30, 2025 was estimated to increase by 4.9% compared to the same period last month and increase by 13.3% compared to the same period last year (in the same period last year, it increased by 8.5%). The average inventory ratio of the entire processing and manufacturing industry in the first 9 months of 2025 was 82.3% (the average for the same period in 2024 was 76.8%).
