Imports and exports decreased in first half of September

AsemconnectVietnam - The latest preliminary statistics of the Customs Department showed that the total import and export turnover of Vietnam in the first period of September (from September 1 to 15) reached 39.05 billion USD, down by 8.5% (equivalent to a decrease of 3.61 billion USD) compared to the results in the second half of August 2025.

The results achieved in the first half of September brought the total import and export turnover of the whole country up to September 15 to 637.21 billion USD, up by 17.2% (equivalent to an increase of 93.7 billion USD) compared to the same period of 2024.
The country’s exports in the first period of September reached 19.2 billion USD, down by 17.7% compared to the second period of August (equivalent to a decrease of nearly 4.12 billion USD).
The exports in the first half of September decreased compared to the second half of August 2025 in the main commodity groups, such as phones of all kinds and components decreased by 27.2%; computers, electronic products and components decreased by 12.5%; textiles and garments decreased by 25.3%; footwear of all kinds decreased by 27%.
There was a downward trend in the first half of September, but accumulated from the beginning of the year to September 15, Vietnam's total export turnover still increased by 15.8% over the same period last year, reaching 325.26 billion USD.
In particular, some commodity groups increased sharply such as computers, electronic products and components increased by 22.43 billion USD; machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts increased by 4.83 billion USD, equivalent to an increase of 13.8%; coffee increased by 2.57 billion USD, equivalent to an increase of 61.8% compared to the same period of 2024.
Regarding imports, the total turnover in the first period of September reached 19.85 billion USD, an increase of 2.7% (equivalent to an increase of 518 million USD) compared to the second period of August.
Imports of goods in the first period of September increased compared to the second period of August of 2025, mainly in some groups such as computers, electronic products and components increased by 3.9%; machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts increased by 7.5%.
Accumulated to September 15, 2025, the total import turnover of the whole country reached 311.95 billion USD, an increase of 18.8% (equivalent to an increase of 49.29 billion USD) compared to the same period of 2024.
In which, the imports of some groups of goods increased sharply such as computers, electronic products and components increased by 38.7%; machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts increased by 24.9%.
In the first period of September of 2025, the trade balance of goods had a deficit of 645 million USD. However, from the beginning of the year to September 15, 2025, the trade balance of goods still had a surplus of 13.31 billion USD.
